I bought a cover from a company in New Zealand and I think they do come in larger than crib mattress sizes. I also have a 100% cotton mattress pad that is coated in polyurethane on one side. I'm not sure about the poly but I haven't heard anything negative about it so far.

Flame retardants are a really serious subject. I just posted about it again on my blog. A new study has been done on them. You can read about it here:

That's wonderful that you don't have to deal with the flamretardant chemicals! I have a wool puddle pad on my lo's crib and it's worked great for urine and spit up. I have a cotton mattress cover between it and the sheets.

Thank you Lord for blessing us with little Riley on May 5, 2008.

Hi,
So I'm looking to get my DD a twin, and with trying to be more natural, I'm having a hard time deciding! I'm considering the natura kidz mattress, which has a mix of natural & synthetic latex & wool, or a regular spring sealy with health guard (the materials were all cleaned beforehand), and put a wool/cotton mattress cover on it... I'm in Canada, so luckily our mattresses don't have to have the flame-retardant chemicals... that's why I'm considering a regular mattress with a nicer pad/cover...
and what do you do about making it waterproof for "accidents"? Do wool puddle pads really soak up leaks? I'd hate to spend the $ on the fancy mattress & ruin it with pee!

your advice is GREATLY appreciated!!!
