I think I did hot till the water ran clear and then cold a few times just to be sure.

Thank you! I really hope this works. I put them in boiled water in my sink. Now I am doing a billion wash cycles. How many would you suggest? The plan is to repeat all day long tomorrow. Maybe 6-8? Should I alternate cold/hot cycles or stay on cold or hot?

I'm not sure what the best way to get rid of the scent would be.
However, I'm pretty sure lavender oil would negatively affect the absorbency of the diapers. The detergent I was using pre-cloth diapers had lavender oil in it and I ended up getting the same brand, just unscented, because I read that essential oils will coat your diapers and they won't be able to absorb liquids.

When we had the same problem I boiled and scrubbed my diapers by hand. Just fill your sink with diapers and dump boiling water on top. Let them sit till you can handle them. Then use a stiff brush (Like you use to scrub floors) and scrub the inner fabric. I kept doing it till the water ran clear. Then rinse rinse rinse in the washer.
I found out my husband was washing my cloth diapers with TIDE! AH, the smell is bad, and my son is getting a rash. Plus I am expecting my third in 2 and half months. Obviously, this needs to be taken care of ASAP but so far I have only been doing repeat cycles on hottest water I can. Its not working on the smell. I haven't bought anything else to use yet because I am not sure what to buy. Money is tight so I would prefer something as full proof as possible. Thanks!
Also, if anybody here makes their own detergent which I plan to do soon, I am interested in a recipe safe for diapers. Is lavender oil used for scent safe?
