Vitamin B-12 May Prevent Birth Defects
Women of childbearing age (especially those who are pregnant or trying to conceive) are advised to eat 400 mg of folic acid (folate) daily to prevent neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, from occurring in their babies. New research shows that vitamin B12 may also play a role.

I read that soaking in vinegar overnight might work, too. I did that last night and then rinsed rinsed rinsed.

They're drying now, I'm going to put my son in one tonight and see if it worked. If it didn't, I'll try the bleach next!

That stink problem is the very reason I'm going 100% cotton with DD#2. The only thing i found to work was adding 1/4-1/3cp of bleach to the wash cycle. I'd do two rinses to make sure all the bleach was gone.
I tried everything to get rid of that smell! I know most diapers don't recommend bleach ever, ( except bum genius, they actually recommend it for occasional use on their website,) but I was desperate.
Hth!

Hello helpful group of people! I have been cloth diapering for just over three months.

Before my son was born, I bought a bunch of second hand cloth diapers on craigslist. At the time, I didn't really know what I liked, but I couldn't pass up the deal and I thought I would like pocket diapers, but I ended up really liking the hybrid diapers.

Most of the used diapers I have were "one size" and drowned my newborn son. Now that he is bigger, we've started using them. BIG PROBLEM: when he pees, they smell SO BAD.

I tried stripping them with dawn in my top loader washing machine. I ran hot hot cycles ALL DAY AND NIGHT (a total of at least 12 cycles)...and I thought it would do the trick. It didn't. They are still gross.

I need more suggestions. I'd like to re-sell them, but I wouldn't because I don't feel right selling something that's "bad" (even though someone did the same to me). Any tricks to get the stink out of them? I need the money to buy diapers that fit my kid :)
