thanks everyone for the replies - we never use fabric softener so that's not an issue. We're washing every day, or every second day, as I don't have quite enough diapers to get through otherwise, i'm trying to use just cloth except for at night. Might need to buy some more, and maybe some leak-resistant night diapers!

Baby girl Lena *the lentil* born May 2011, like a rocketship! 3 hours total of intense, unmedicated labour, with 30 mins of pushing.

We were surprised how much of a challenge breastfeeding was at first, but now she's feeding like a champion and we're enjoying getting to know each other!

I would think it's fine to wash with other things.... especially something like towels, that you can wash on hot. Just make sure not to use fabric softener, especially if you have pockets. May need to strip your towels first.

The only problem I can see with washing them with other clothes is detergent/fabric softener making the diapers less absorbent. Fabric softener is like teflon for clothing, repelling water and stains. It can transfer from your clothes to diapers, even if you are no longer using it, and it can take many, many washings to come out completely.

Just starting to try cloth again, and finding it easier than we thought! But wondering if anyone is washing their diapers with other clothes, or do you do a separate load? We're only using cloth part-time so it's such a small load to do it separately. What if i rinse them by hand first, then add to other loads?
