Alayna at 3.25 years

Alayna at 3.25 years blog
It's been awhile since I last updated on Alayna! I decided that I would start doing Alayna's updates every 3 months after she turned three! She had her 3 year wellness visit in April, and she weighed 28.5 lbs and was 37.5 inches tall. She has gained 5 lbs and 3.5 inches in the last year. She acted like such a big girl at her appointment. She talked to the nurse as she weighed her, measured her, and took her blood pressure. When Dr. Carmack came in, Alayna answered her questions and let her examine her without any complaints.

Alayna continues to love Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. We watch it every morning when we wake up. Alayna hasn't really been watching too much else lately, although she still enjoys princess movies. She's currently interested in playing pretend (kitchen, babies, etc) and reading books. She loves to look through the pictures on my phone and has just recently started playing a few games on my iphone. She also LOVES to swim and play at her water table. We go swimming a few times a week and play at the water table most other days. Alayna wears a Puddle Jumper in the pool, and she's all over the place. She likes to jump in and have me catch her.

Alayna's current routine includes waking up at 9 (we are on summer schedule), eating lunch around 11, she only naps about 1-2 times a week for 1-1.5 hours), having a snack, eating supper around 5ish, and then going to bed at 8:30-9. If she naps, she goes to bed later. She is pretty flexible, so if we stay out later than bed time, she will go with the flow.

Alayna is NOT a great eater. She much prefers unhealthy, snack food. I have to work really hard to get her to eat anything healthy. She loves pasta, lunch meat, fish sticks, hamburgers, chicken nuggets, baked beans, green beans, peaches, pineapple, and all desserts! She especially loves honeybuns (thanks to my mom), ice cream, and candy. UGH!

Alayna continues to be very independent. She picks out her clothes, dresses herself, and decides her hairstyle for the day. She can still be very cuddly at times, loves to give hugs and kisses, and tells us she loves us every day. She gets in trouble most days for not sharing her toys and/or demanding things instead of asking politely. She is very chatty, but she gets shy in large crowds or when she doesn't know people. Sometimes she will resort to baby talk when she's nervous or wanting attention, but most of the time she is very understandable.

Alayna continues to crack us up with funny conversations, sayings, and questions. Many times we find ourselves asking, "Where did she hear/learn that?" Her newest line is, "Oh that's pitiful!"

Alayna and Ava have a pretty good relationship. They play together a lot (even though Alayna steals the toys), read books together, play pretend with each other (as much as Ava understands anyway), and laugh a lot! My favorite moments of the day are when they are laughing and playing together...or hugging. When I hear Alayna talk to Ava, try to make her feel better, or defend her, it really melts my heart.

I can't believe she starts preschool NEXT MONTH. My feelings are very bittersweet about this new chapter in her life. I know she'll love learning and making new friends, but I also know that school brings on new issues and challenges. I have an overwhelming feel to protect her from bullies, mean-spirited comments, popularity issues....oh dear, just thinking about it makes my stomach hurt!

Alayna had her first dance recital in June. She actually stood on the stage and did a few moves! I was very proud (and I honored all the bribes I promised her...nail polish, gum, and a new doll). She was a flower girl in my sister's wedding earlier this month, and she refused to walk down the aisle. I think she was too shy with all the people around.

On Alayna's birthday, I interviewed her. Here's the link if you are interested in seeing what she had to say.
