Yesterday, May 17th, 2012, was our first scheduled ultrasound. Cory and I met in the parking lot during his lunch break and walked in together. Cory was very calm and collected, something I can count on, but I was very excited (and had to pee so badly).
The doctor did an outside ultrasound first and checked my ovaries, but was unable to see the baby. That meant I was able to go to the bathroom so she could conduct a vaginal ultrasound (Halleluiah).
The experience was amazing!!! Cory and I were very impressed and couldn’t take our eyes off the monitor. The doctor checked my ovaries again…. And then zoomed in to the baby!!! There was little Pharest, 6 weeks and 6 days (that would make today the 7th week). Zooming in on the heart flickering we were able to hear the baby’s heart beating at 120 beats per minute…. At which point Cory brought up the old wise tale about being able to tell the sex of the baby due to the heart rate. It was funny to see the reaction of the doctor, she just giggled and said “No that isn’t true, there isn’t any way to tell the sex and the heart rate has nothing to go with the sex of the baby.”
I was handed the first pictures of my baby and told I would need to come back at 20 weeks. The week of August 20th seems so far, yet so near!
