WIT'S END ( double posted..sorry)

WIT'S END ( double posted..sorry) blog
My baby, Ella is about a month and a half old now and I couldn't be happier..EXCEPT (haha)

It all started in the hospital, after they figured out about the jaundice... when they noticed my milk wasn't coming in... so after 7 days I was given a prescription for domperidone to help the milk come in....in the meantime we have been supplementing with formula...

After a couple of days of THAT we noticed a white spot with red around in Ella's mouth and figured.. oh boy..thrush.

Off to the doctor's we went... she was sleeping, so the doctor couldn't peek in her mouth and just wrote us a prescription anyhow...

THANKFULLY we had a breastfeeding clinic the next day so she only had about three doses of the stuff because when we went there, they told us it wasn't thrush... that she was latching well and that I needed to keep pumping and taking the meds and that we didn't have to wake her up every 3 hours to feed her, she would let us know on her own...

But my left breast hurt so BADLY... two days later I had the chills.. then the next day was my baby shower and I got them again REALLY badly. I ended up having to go home and just crashed in bed for 6 hours (thank GOD for the fiancee' being home to take her for a few hours). The next day we noticed my breast was inflamed and RED and so off to the emergency clinic only to be told..

Mastitis...

Oiy.

So then I was put on medication for THAT and the breast stopped producing milk altogether for a few days, despite my best efforts to pump it.

Now the milk is there, but like 10 ml at a time-- which is NOTHING, especially considering my right breast is doing 60-90ml at any given time..

I am getting really fed up and frustrated ladies..I don't know what to do...

I even tried taking a break from nursing her and pumping every 1-2 hours and all that did was make the right breast even BETTER and left the left well.. not so much..

The nurses say to keep trying and it will all even out, that the mastitis did a number but seriously..

Ella doesn't sleep anymore, she just cries and cries in her sleep because of the gas the formula gives her... and then cries because she is hungry when she is up..I barely have time to feed her, never mind pumping every 2 hours as they have recommended..

Any advice?

Anyone else know of solutions for newborn gas? My mom swears by gripe water, as they used it back in the day but my pediatrician didn't have anything to say when I asked him-- he just said they have a hard time passing gas and that was that ARG!

Anyone have any advice on getting the left breast to catch up on milk? I am getting pretty sick of being a lopsided lady!!

HELP!

"Maybe pump the right side every OTHER time but keep up the pumping with the left every time?" -- LOOKIT983
"Oh my gosh....she sounds so much like Michael... you poor thing. I wish I had some advice for you. All I can say is that it will eventually get better. Michael was really gassy like that at the start and it developed into full blown reflux. We tried; gripe water, infacol, gaviscon, thickeners, zantac, losec, pumping legs, elevating the cot at the head end, keeping him upright for half hour after a feed....EVERYTHING. The only thing I found seemed to help a little was taking him to the chiroprac..." -- JESSCASTREE
"For the gas I've heard there's that Mylacon helps the gas bubbles break up a bit, also when she's laying down if you pump her legs it's suposed to help relieve gas pressure and I have heard that gripe water works too but havn't personally tried it!
I have no help for the bf issues tho Sorry!! Just hang in there, I hope it all gets beter soon!" -- TINK15366
