I get pretty excited with new goals, and tracking my eating is not exception. I've been pretty faithful to the Baby Fit diet guidelines, and I have noticed a couple of benefits. First, I have more energy. I still get tired, which is expected in the first trimester, but I don't have the late afternoon energy crash. Secondly, I have experienced less nausea symptoms, and no heartburn (yet!). Third, I'm recovering more quickly after workouts.
I have always been a fairly healthy eater, and an avid exerciser. Extra running miles has always meant a tolerance for extra calories. I've never worried too much about my nutritional intake. After my last pregnancy, I found that shedding the last 10-15 pounds took a LOT longer than in my first pregnancy. Now that I'm three years older, I anticipate an even greater difficulty. That's why I decided to be more aware. Now, I really want to make it a permanent lifestyle change, so I can be fit and healthy through life.
Today my husband and I had an outing with the kids. Afterwards, we stopped at Dickie's BBQ for lunch. I don't want to be overly anal about my diet, so I shared in the Picnic meal with the rest of the family. I think it is the biggest meal I have eaten this week. It included barbecue brisket, macaroni and cheese, and baked beans. I definitely feel differently than I have the rest of the week. My stomach has been unsettled since. The good thing is, I ran 10.5 miles this morning, so I can afford a little indulgence. However, I think I will quickly return to my newly developing eating habits.

I am the first to admit that I find pregnancy a tedious process. As excited as I am for each little one to join our family, I dread the nine months of incubation. I think it's because I'm used to being very active. I have been a competitive long distance runner since the age of nine, and I don't like slowing down. I'm also not fond of the body changes or the attempt to return to fitness after the baby arrives.
I have two wonderful children (Cole 5 and Lily 2), but I knew that our family was not complete. I have spent the last few months debating whether to go for baby 3, or train for a marathon this fall. In both instances, my biological clock is ticking. I ultimately decided that my top priority is in completing my family, and that running will always be a part of my life. So, my husband and I decided to go for it.
4 weeks later . . . Baby 3 is on its way! (We are quick conceivers!) I thought that blogging the experience, as well as tracking my fitness and nutrition would be a fun way to make the pregnancy seem a little less endless. Plus, a byproduct of being an athlete is an uncontrollable urge to set goals and chart my progress! I've always been pretty active during my pregnancies, but tend to give in to my seemingly insatiable appetite. Hopefully, tracking my progress will give me some focus, and maybe even limit the constant hearburn that I seem to experience.
I'm excited for our newest member of the family. It will be fun having the kids involved. My oldest keeps asking if we can trade his sister in for a baby brother. I think he will have fun with this entire process. Lily, on the other hand, is about to have her world rocked! She's a big momma's girl, and I don't think she's going to like sharing Mom! As always, it should all be an adventure!
