YARIKAP-Good to hear you like the exercises I sent you! It sounds like you're ready to start building back to the fitness level you had prior to pregnancy, so how about starting with some shorter bouts of walking to see how your body feels. I'd start with 20-30 minutes of a moderate pace every other day for the next week. If that feels good and you don't have any issues, we can start building from there. Ideally we can start you back with running within the next month or so as long as you continue to do well with walking and then walk/jog. I'd also like to add in several other types of exercise since you have a gym access. I think you'll be surprised at how fast your body will regain fitness!

1.) how have you recovered from pregnancy and delivery (any incisions, tears or other complications?) Very well. Baby born on April 6th, vaginally with no tearing. I have stopped bleeding. I continue to breastfeed. No complaints of pain.
2.) What kind of activity did you do during pregnancy or prior to pregnancy? I was an avid runner, cyclist, and did yoga very frequently. I worked out throughout my pregnancy and did yoga 2-3x/week up until my due date. I ran a half marathon at 5 months pregnant.
3.) What types of exercise are easily available to you? Running, cycling, yoga, weights, fitness classes, swimming.
4.) What is your time availability for exercise (gym membership with childcare, ability to have family or DH give you time to exercise. 60-90 minutes

Thank you so much for replying.
I have not had access to my email so have only read your mail now.

I have recovered quite well and have been cleared to start my excercise routine.
My main focus area is my abdominals. I did not do too many exercises during my pregnancy...just kept active and tried to stretch a bit every day.

I have started a bit of light cardio to get my body used to being more active before starting bootcamp and would like to begin either today or tomorrow.
Currently I am on maternity leave at home and am fitting in my exercise while my daughter is asleep.

Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Yarika

Congratulations on your new baby and on joining Babyfit! We're here to help you reach your fitness and health goals, so I'm glad you've posted.
First off, it's only been two months since your baby's birth, so don't put too much pressure on yourself to feel back to pre-pregnancy size right now. Your body has been through a lot the past year, and you need to give yourself some time and think of all your body has done so well to bring a baby into the world. Our society puts so much pressure on looks, so it can be difficult when you feel that you're not looking the way you'd like right now. I promise you that if you nurture yourself and take the slow approach towards your goals, you'll be feeling quite differently by the end of the next six months.
That said, I'm here to help you get started, and the first thing I'd recommend is regaining your abdominal strength with the series of exercises I've posted the link to below. Start with level one, and don't push to higher levels until you're able to do each level as described in the tutorial. These exercises target the muscles that help tone the lower abdomen, and are a fantastic way to regain a tighter tummy.
The other part you should focus on is your diet. It can help to keep a food record to see how many calories you're taking in each day, and even more important, the quality of those calories. Fresh vegetables, fruit, whole grains and lean proteins are the way to go, so a food record is a very helpful way to determine where you may need to make some changes.

I can help you further with your goals if you give me a bit more information, such as: how have you recovered from pregnancy and delivery (any incisions, tears or other complications?)
-What kind of activity did you do during pregnancy or prior to pregnancy?
-What types of exercise are easily available to you?
-What is your time availability for exercise (gym membership with childcare, ability to have family or DH give you time to exercise?)
Let me know and we can get started!
Cathy

Welcome to Babyfit, and I hope we can be your support system in helping you be as healthy as possible! You've got a lot going on (and glad that your son is doing better) so adding some exercise to your day will be a bit challenging, but it certainly can be done. If you're feeling ready to get started let me know what types of activity you enjoy doing and that'll fit into your routine. Would you be able to walk with a double stroller? Or, any chance of joining a fitness center that offers child care? That would be a great option, as you'll get time to yourself to exercise and meet new friends.
Let me know and we can get started with setting up a fitness program for you!

Hi! I just joined BabyFit & am 12 weeks pregnant with a 3 yr old daughter & a 19mo old son.

My first trimester has been extremely difficult with non-stop morning sickness and vertigo. Then my little guy was hospitalized with RSV & Pneumonia. I'm doing my best to "Do it all" with my husband working 3 weeks away from home every month.

I need support & encouragement to eat healthy & get active. I'm new to my area too, with no family close. Thanks!

Just thought I would pop in and let you know I had Theo on August 17. There were no issues with his delivery and he is very healthy. I am back in the gym but not as often as before and I am still working on increasing my intensity.

What's safe for one pregnant woman may not be appropriate exercise for another-it all depends upon how your pregnancy is progressing. If your healthcare provider clears you for exercise (ie:you don't have any complications or other health problems) then the best type of exercise is one that feels good, doesn't push you past the point of comfort and fits well into your lifestyle. The exercise types you listed are fine for most pregnant women as long as they pay close attention to how they feel during and after exercise, and ask their instructor for modifications they can do when their intensity level gets too high. I've pasted a link to more information on how to keep your prenatal exercise safe.

LOVINGWOLF-It's hard to get motivated when you feel tired, but I also can tell you that inactivity can lead to a feeling of lethargy and make you want to eat more. One suggestion is to do a food record for the next three days to get a view of what types of food you're eating and how you feel afterwards. Sometimes when we feel low energy we crave foods with sugar, but when you eat high sugar foods you'll get a very fast drop in blood sugar that'll make you feel more tired, and the cycle continues.
You may want to try to add more protein to your meals, and avoid any sugary or even fruit only snacks to see how you feel.
Make a deal with yourself to do just one 20 minute walk each day. Or, even break it up into a 15 minute walk and 5 minutes of strength training. I promise that you'll notice a real change in how you feel after just a short bout of exercise, especially if you limit your diet to only healthy foods that feed you and your baby the best nutrients.
Check out the Babyfit bootcamp videos for fun, quick ways to fit in exercise and also take a look at the nutrition section for great ideas on how to deal with excess pregnancy weight gain.
