Guys, All of the sudden I'm getting a lot of pelvic pain when I walk. Did this happen to anyone? I hadn't really had pelvic pain up until this past week and now it's just uncomfortable.

Cyclone, You really need to pay attention to how "you" feel . You should be going at a pace that is comfortable for you and your pregnant body, not a pace that is comfortable for your husband , or anyone else for that matter. Please don't push yourself to his limits. It is healthy to stay active , but not to overdo. Be safe ! Tenille

I've fluctuated in weight all my life, and being pregnant for the 5th time (yes you read it right!), it has been a huge worry for me. I have just barely got down to a size 10-12 last year from a 14-16 after my last baby now 5 years old. This pregnancy was not planned like the other 4, and so I had planned on getting myself in shape, and treating myself to looking great in my 30's... little did I know what plans were around the corner for me... falling pregnant after I had reached my goal weight did upset me, however, after bleeding for the first 3 months, I realized that if I lost this little on, I would be devastated... now 24+ weeks we are having our first girl after 4 beautiful sons - it will all be worth it... i've only gained 8lbs total, and I feel smaller than when I carried my boys, so here's hoping I carry on the good work, so there's less to come off afterwards!

HI I am pregnant with my second baby. Don't buy from Motherhood mat. Everything I bought there shrunk once I washed them. I needed stuff that help up because you tend to wear the same things over and over. You don't care because they are comfortable. Second hand stores do have great stuff, Kohls, Ross, they all have prewashed preg clothes. Happy shopping. Laura

I don't know if it is normal or not but I would like you to know that I am in my 27th week and when I walk I have the same feeling. This might sound silly but do you think it may be gravity pulling from standing and moving?
Due: Feb.11th

AHADLEY - With my last pregnancy I was having the same problem. Instead of buying maternity clothes I went to Wal-Mart and bought clothes from the plus sizes. They were comfortable and fit my life style. I am just pregnant for the 2nd time and now I have clothes to fit through all the different stages of my pregnancy. Keep up the exercise. Walking is very good. Find a place that you like and go for a nice walk. Enjoy the scenery and you will hardly notice how long you have been walking.

I'm working on the eating right, and the exercise. Haven't actually gone out to specifically exercise, but have made it a concerted effort to NOT sit for long periods of time. Now my feet hurt, but I know I've just gotta keep moving. So for plus size mommas- Where in the world do you buy maternity clothes?? I already feel really bloated- I went out today to buy new pants- from "motherhood maternity". I won't lie- my pant size is between a 20-22. None of the pants sold fit- they made me look like a stuffed sausage! I looked online- and there are other plus-sized maternity clothes you can buy- but I can't help but be angry by the fact that I can't simply go into a maternity store and fit into anything. What am I going to do when I'm near the final stages of pregnancy? I'm not ashamed that I'm heavy- I am what I am, and I allowed my weight to get out of control- but I feel like I've recieved a huge slap in the face for my weight. Fat people have sex too. Fat people have babies. It's just a simple fact that seems like it's gotten too complicated for retailers. So now that I'm done ranting... any advice?

I exercised during my fertility treatments. I recently did IUI for the first time (just injections before that) and they told me to take it easy the day of the procedure. I was on the treadmill that afternoon and have been running every since. I am 9 weeks today with twins! I am not a doctor, but it didn't affect me at all. Best of luck to you! ak

AHADLEY - I am facing a similar situation with weight as you are. I have a friend who is a maternity nurse. She says that you should never diet during a pregnancy, just eat healthy and do as much exercise as you are comfortable doing. Don't try anything too strenuous now, you will only get discouraged and might even cause harm to the baby. I hope this helps a bit. Try to stay possitive.

I was doing my Yoga class until last Thursday. I got halfway through and had to stop. I can't bend anymore at 31 weeks...it is just too hard. Plus, I have been getting a few braxton-hicks contractions. I am sticking with just walking and swimming now...but my legs get really tired and I make noises when I stand up. I feel old.

I just found out I'm pregnant yesterday. My husband and I have been married since June. My mother passed away last year on Halloween. Obviously there's been a bit of stress... With that stress came a ton of weight gain. :( I'm considered obese at this time. Is it okay to try and maintain my weight through the pregnancy? I know that there will be some weight gain- but is it bad if i lose a little weight during?? My husband and I will be first time parents, and I can't get in to see my OB for a little over two weeks. Any advice?

CYCLONE, If hubby refers to you as "pathetic" I would wonder what kind of macho issues he is dealing with. I might remind him that there is a reason pregnancy women cannot be admitted to the military. The comment is pretty insensitive. I think it would be safe to assume he was already in decent shape BEFORE he got into the military, or he wouldn't have passed the preliminary testing. I've seen a lot of hard core body builder-type personal trainers at the gym where I work who would ignorantly push 50-something old ladies through the kinds of hard regimines that they did themselves. One workout is not ideal for everyone. I've worked as a personal trainer for more than 10 years, and have seen that one workout doesn't even fit MOST, much less everyone. Your workouts need to suit not only your body, but your personality. If you don't enjoy doing a workout, you just won't do it for very long, period. I tried for years to force myself through hard weight training, only to discover that I thoroughly enjoyed dance and Pilates. I still do weight training, but much differently, and now I look forward to it instead of dragging myself to the gym thinking, "I HAVE to". Be open to new ideas, and try out the exercises on this site. You'll find something that is perfect for you, not your husband.

CYCLONE, were you and your husband already on the fitness kick before you got pregnant? Most things I've read strongly recommend moderate exercise throughout pregnancy regardless of your earlier routine, but advise against major exertion if it's new to you. As I keep hearing over and over again, "pregnancy is not the time to push your limits." I do my strength training about three times a week, but have cut back a bit on the weight, for instance, and don't hesitate to slow down or stop if I'm getting winded. Others have already mentioned that you'll probably need to alter the curls and crunches to be safe. I've never heard of chinups being banned for pregnant women, but then, I imagine most pregnant women aren't much interested in them. If you could do them before, you'll need to keep them very slow and controlled, and expect your performance on them to slide gradually as you get bigger and your center of gravity gets lower, and plan to quit if you feel any risk of falling. If you couldn't do them before, now is probably not the best time to start (though assisted chin-ups at the gym might be fun to try, if you feel okay about your balance on the machine). Re: pain, my yoga instructor makes the useful distinction between joint pain (stop immediately, and change what you're doing so that it doesn't hurt--joints don't repair easily!) and muscle aches (if it's just the slow burn because you're WORKING that muscle, deal with it, but, again, keep movements slow and controlled). This is the advice I got on the weight training front long before I got pregnant: If you're working your muscles hard enough to cause soreness, make sure you're giving yourself enough time to recover between strength training workouts--at least a full day before you work the same muscle group again, more if your soreness lasts longer. If you want to train every day, you can work around that by alternating muscle groups--e.g., legs one day, upper body the next, etc. As for the name-calling, well, that might work on new military recruits, but it seems an ill-advised way to motivate your wife, pregnant or not. Phththhtppt to him.

Unless your doctor says differently, I think the time to slow down is when your body says to. If you're up to exercising every day at week 39, and everything's okay with you and the baby, go for it! The same perceived exertion rates would apply--just don't wipe yourself out. The biggest challenge for me, now, is getting back to more challenging exercise after slowing down from that first trimester exhaustion. Just getting a walk in most days was a major project (hard to walk and nap at the same time ;). I felt like such a wimp! If you've never been pregnant before, it's really hard to remember in the early stages, when nothing's showing, that even at rest your body's already working harder than it ever has before. Building a brand new person from scratch takes energy, and you have to respect that. It's a tremendous relief to have some of my energy back, now (I'm starting week 15), and I'm looking forward to doing what I can to keep it up for the rest of the pregnancy.

CYCLONE: There is no way you are EVER "pathetic" for listening to your body during pregnancy! My gosh! You HAVE to listen to yourself. It sounds like you're really active, so you KNOW the difference in feeling between when you are and aren't pregnant - and when you're pregnant, any even HINT your body gives you that you might want to slow down is something to which you have to listen. Men don't get it! My husband is the opposite, though, he keeps trying to get me to not work out and pig out all of the time. I said "licorice allsorts" on Saturday and during halftime of the football game he insisted we go out and buy some. I worked out the next day, though, and have only had about 4 pregnancy cravings... so I gave in. Now THAT is pathetic! Guys, is it true that you're supposed to slow it down to 3x per week after 30 weeks? I keep hearing conflicting reports and reading conflicting articles about it. I'm 30 weeks now and feel fine enough to keep walking 4-5x per week (I'd do more if I had more time!), and I don't overdo it so it doesn't seem like that's a problem. Is there something out there I don't know or haven't read??

I have to say that everyone on this site is an inspiration! I am 20 weeks pregnant and used to work out 5-6 days/week. I have slowed a bit and am trying to work out 4x/ week. I am doing the FIRM videos, prenatal yoga and Tae Bo and still really enjoy the exercise. Some days am so tired, but push myself and always feel better afterward. Before I found out I was pregnant this time, I didn't vary my workout routine at all. I've always found that exercise helps relieve stress and maybe that will help you too if you're worried. Best of luck!!

Did you ladies workout the same while you were in 2 weeks waiting trying to conceive? I'm worried that running and stuff will hinder the implantation process. Any advice on this? Thanks! :) Crystal

I'm 14 weeks. Thank you ladies for all the support, sometimes I worry I let my hubby push me to hard and when I say I have to stop he thinks I'm pathetic, but man when you're 15lbs. underweight you feel it that much more! I'll keep the cardio up and make sure I don't push myself to hard anymore! I'm so saved by this site!!!!! Janet

I'm almost at 32 weeks, and right now exercise is pretty much the only thing (besides leftover Halloween candy!) that makes me feel good. I am doing the same cardio w/ weight training workout 5 days a week that I always do. Last pregnancy, I did it up to 39 weeks, then continued with just walking up until the day before the baby was born. Don't listen to people who say you'll hit a brick wall--exercise is a lifesaver.

Don't listen to people who tell things you don't want to hear! My doctor told me to make sure I keep up with my exercise schedule - and/or to increase it - and I'm at 33 weeks!! She says it will help with labor - and it may even help me go early or on time!

I just had to post and say that all of you ladies that are 30+ weeks and still working out most days of the week are amazing! You give me hope that I can continue too. I am 21 weeks now and still go to the gym about 5 days a week. I do cardio every time I go and weights about 4x a week. I also jog with my hubby sometimes. Everyone keeps telling me that I will hit a brick wall and won't be able to keep it up but listening to all of you fit mamas gives me hope. I know that I may have to make some modifications as I get bigger but at least I know I can keep going. Thanks for the motivation ladies and keep it up!

I was feeling really crappy so I started my exercise routine back up again and have felt so much better! It is amazing what a little exercise can do for you physically and emotionally! I do "Walk away the pounds" the 3 miles walk every day. My 3 year old daughter loves to do it with me, she even has her own little stretchy band for the last mile. I love the Walk away the pound videos because you do not have to be coordinated to do them, which is a huge plus for me! :)
