Vitamin B-12 May Prevent Birth Defects
Women of childbearing age (especially those who are pregnant or trying to conceive) are advised to eat 400 mg of folic acid (folate) daily to prevent neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, from occurring in their babies. New research shows that vitamin B12 may also play a role.

"Yes, it's a choice, and we shouldn't use it as ammo in the mommy wars. We all want to do the best for our kids. But it should be an *informed* choice, and it makes me sad to see mommies who don't even consider breastfeeding because of family pressure or because they've believed an old wives' tale about saggy boobs or something, but they haven't bothered to educate themselves. Fortunately that seems to be happening less these days. Any woman who needs formula to feed her child should not feel subject to judgement! That's what formula was invented for, after all, and we should be thankful it's available." -- CATHY_T - 11/15/2012 4:07:06 PM
"I breastfed both of my kids. It was difficult for the first baby but having a support system is very important I was a full time student at the time and working a couple days a week. I pumped in between. They r 5 and 3 now and pregnant with our 3rd I will definately do it again it is a great bonding time with your baby even if it is a little demanding for the first few months until they get on food. It's not only good for the baby but great for you too!" -- OFFWIFE88 - 5/5/2012 2:43:06 PM
"I couldn't breast feed my 1 st boy, & probably this one as well. I had a breast augmentation at 24. I was so flat & insecure at the time. The doctor cut my milk ducts. I had no idea that could happen. Now at 37 & having my second child. I would love to breastfeed. I did have some colestrum & a little milk 2oz. Hey better than nothing. I pumped & I'll do it again. I do regret not learning more options about breast enhancment, back in 98" they prob didn't have the technology. Women have so much guilt about everything. People judge way to harshly. I personally think it's a bit weird when I see a 3 yr old telling mommy
there hungry & mommy lifting up her shirt. Omg! This happened to me on a train. To each his own. That little boys amunne system is prob great. Do what you can do, & don't listen to negitive people." -- JENN74MATT09 - 3/1/2012 3:07:42 PM
"I think pregnant females frown upon formula way too often - i formula fed my daughter and she is healthy and smart as a whip at almost 5 now.. i will also be formula feeding this one.. its all based on CHOICES........ so allow people to make their own people :)" -- MISSTAM - 10/19/2011 2:25:01 AM
"Breastfeeding is most often times possible! People need education and support for success. Read the "Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" and make sure you're in touch with your local Le Leche League chapter.

It's not easy and you need lots of support and encouragement!

Despite what people tell you (doctors, media and most for profit sources of medical/health info), formula will allow your baby to survive but it is inferior in EVERY WAY to the milk your baby makes specifically for your baby." -- MAMA_JANE - 8/23/2011 9:25:36 AM
"For helpful breastfeeding info and how-to's be sure to check out the Breastfeeding: Benefits & Resources article.

"Wow, babyfit. way to fail! Your first mention of breast-feeding is that it might not work, and here's how to use formula?! Why not something about breast-feeding might be difficult, but here are some common problems and solutions? I'm disappointed." -- KNEWMAN - 7/20/2011 12:59:25 AM
"Woohoo 32 weeks today! So excited to have made it this far seeing as I was told I couldn't have anymore babies! I have a determined little guy on the way and can't wait to see the little person that's had me an emotional painful mess LOL" -- ARTSYMOMMY123 - 7/6/2011 1:18:18 AM
"i'm 32 weeks with my third pregnancy and keep thinking i'm going into labor but then as far as i know nothing happens.. don't get to see a dr until i'm 36 weeks along b/c my dr's back up dr will not schedule me an appt. :/ great fun." -- OBLIVIOUS - 6/18/2011 5:16:10 PM
"Im 32 weeks just got diagnosed with gestational diabetes. This is my 4th baby and I was hospitalized two days ago because I thought my water broke. They checked my fluid and it was low and Im already 3cm dialated. They say with each one it gets easier ha the labor might but the actual pregnancies sure aren't. Im thankful they stop the contractions and my fluid went back up. Hopefully I can keep it that way for the next 51 days until my lil princess gets here." -- RYESQUEEN - 5/3/2011 9:12:23 PM
"I am 32 weeks today and as we have our c-section booked for 5/19 our little girl will be here in 49 days and counting!! It really has started to get scarily real.....

Good luck to all mamas and babies. I hope you all have a safe and comfortable labour and delivery." -- ROSSISMUM - 3/31/2011 6:41:21 AM
"I'm 32 weeks and have been put on bed rest to my utter surprise. Not the best feeling, but in my sonogram this week, it showed that my amniotic fluid had dipped below the average of level 10 -20. So my doctor advised me to go on bed rest. Unfortunately for me, as a working mom that was a bit traumatizing. I also have a seven year old that I have to stay on top of. It's day two of bed rest and I'm literally losing my mind. My doctor doesn't know what caused the amnio fluid to decrease but suggests it could've been anything. I just recovered from a terrible sinus infection and cold a few weeks ago and may have not been drinking as much fluid as I should've been since I was feeling so terrible, he said that could be a reason. He also feels that I'm overexerting myself with work, walking almost 1 mile everyday and tending to my family. Well I will do anything for my little baby girl, so for now, I'll heed to the doctor's orders and stay in bed as much as possible. Luckily, I have a great husband who has been taking over most of my daily chores around the house. It's only for seven days until my next sonogram, and then we'll see if my level has increased. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem?" -- JEAN0802 - 3/20/2011 4:23:40 PM
"I'm 32 weeks and cant wait to get this over with and see my little gigl :)" -- UMMLAILA - 2/26/2011 3:02:13 PM
"I called my doctor when my baby was not moving at all for half a day. Luckly right after I called I started to feel movement after I relaxed and focused on feeling the movements. He informed me that at this time the baby goes through sleep cycles and can have periods where there is lack of movement. But you should always contact the doctor if the lack of movement is unusual or out of the ordinary. Like he moves a lot at bedtime but now does'nt move. Good luck." -- LILDEGAS1973 - 11/11/2010 5:49:10 PM
"I freaked out too when my son stopped stopped moving, but my Dr. also said it was just because he was getting bigger and running out of room. I actually ended up renting one of those little portable heart beat monitor machines so I could keep checking to make sure his heart was beating!" -- CYRILSMOM - 11/5/2010 5:53:24 AM
"It is always a good idea to contact your medical provider when you have questions or changes that cause you concern." -- TANYA_BABYFIT - 6/23/2010 1:10:42 PM
"I KNOW THIS AM GOING TO ASK DOESNT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SWOLLEN ANKLES NOR BREASTFEDDING BUT IM CONCERN, IS IT OK FOR MY BABY TO DECREASE MOVEMENT THIS WEEK??? ONE OF MY FRIENDS TOLD ME THAT IT WAS OK BECAUSE THE BABY DOESNT HAVE MUCH ROOM ANYMORE, OR SHOULD I RUN TO THE DOC? HELP PLS" -- MYLOVESPRINCESS - 6/23/2010 10:35:16 AM
"With my first son, I just didn't produce milk. By weeks 3/ 4 I would pump for hours to get drops at a time, the day ending with about an ounce or so. At the time I didn't know how common it was -thought every woman was made to do this, and felt so broken and disappointed as a new mother.

(to the last post) I finally caved and bought myself a body pillow, and its made a great difference in the amount of sleep I get!" -- 1STTIMEMAMA - 2/19/2010 8:14:16 AM
"I don't think this article is insinuating anything about being able or not able to breastfeed. It is a nice springboard for answering the question, "Are you going to breastfeed?", asked by every family member and stranger alike. This article allows us to leave it up in the air. "I would like to try if it works out, but if not, there are plenty of other healthy solutions." I tried with my first for 8 weeks with infections in both breasts after a C section. I had flat nipples and a lazy eater. Lets face it, breastfeeding is not always best for your baby especially if the baby isn't getting any milk. My husband's step grandmother's first baby died of malnutrition because she wasn't eating enough. Just relax ladies. Do what you can and do what's best for you. If you are miserable, so is your baby." -- SHANABRYNA - 2/16/2010 8:52:47 AM
"I think the article was more less saying that if you can not breastfeed do not feel guilty since there are a lot of programs and people that do . I did not produce enough to feed my 8lb 8 oz son when he was born and I tried so hard to for so long, however, I still had many negative comments from strangers, family, and friends about not breastfeeding which made a hard time even harder simply because I didnt want to share with them the reason I wasn't." -- APR18MUM - 2/15/2010 3:51:12 PM
"lol i do love being prego i get alot of attention from family and friends.... the only thing i dont like about it is that i cant sleep on my belly its hard to sleep on my side.. :-(" -- VIANEY13 - 2/13/2010 3:37:58 PM
"Geez, way to undermine pregnant women, insinuating to us all at 32 weeks that we won't be able to breastfeed and should just go ahead and accept that.
Seriously?" -- TAILSFOX - 2/13/2010 11:15:36 AM
"Same!!! I felt kinda guilty saying that cuz most women love being pregnant, I am not one of them yes there are things I love like feeling him move! but at eight months I'm so done and ready for him to be here!!!! and finally have my body back (=" -- MISSA19 - 2/11/2010 1:02:54 PM

"I feel the same way....like I've been pregnant forever. At times I want it to hurry and be done with but then again I want to cherish these last two months I have with my daughter inside and all her kicks and movements. I'm excited for D-day though and can't wait to see how she is going to look. I love her so much already." -- PENGUINBABY44 - 2/5/2010 4:04:21 AM

"i am at my 32/33rd week and its getting close to the big day for me... as for my ankles they are fine,, i wear the long pippi longstalking socks ,, you know those ones that almost reach your neck...lol! really i am just very tired and water is usually a pick me up but right now im needing some sugar! juice or fruits......all i can think of..... carrying is not easy to do... no man can ever understand the feeling... he can try but thats about it....." -- DOMONIQUE4 - 1/12/2010 1:18:45 PM
"Hi all, I am also 32 weeks, almost 33 and i have been lucky with not having too much swelling in my ankles but my wrists are very bad, half the time i cant feel my finger tips. But still i will put up with these aches just for the prize i get at the end of it all. Our little man is coming quick and we are so very excited!" -- KIMBERLEYCARR - 12/24/2009 1:06:35 PM
"Despite my best efforts at staying off swelling, it keeps happening. I just drink more water and prop my feet and legs up when I get a chance. This is our 4th and final child and I am looking forward to meeting him! I am not ready, but within a few weeks I will be. Anyway, 32 weeks and counting!" -- SLIMDEE - 12/18/2009 5:37:33 PM

"I've been so lucky my ankles are rarely ever swollen except for when I'm on my feet for a long time and I'm 32wks" -- PINOCCHIO - 10/28/2009 3:39:58 PM
"My LO has been head-down, but sunny-side up for most of my pregnancy. I guess it's just what he prefers O.o;; I'm so thankful that I haven't been swelling to massive proportions--all my shoes still fit! For now...::knock on wood::" -- DCLOVE0912 - 9/27/2009 2:11:03 PM

"My feet and ankles are swelling SOOOOO BAD!! You know, it is all worth it. I am 33 weeks and I am getting terrified and nervous and happy and excited all at the same time. It is going to be great to meet my little boy Colby Russsell, but at the same time I will miss his movement inside my belly. The is the greatest experience of my life." -- LEIGHMOSER - 8/21/2009 9:42:55 AM
"I'm so nervous about giving birth, but excited at the same time. At 28 weeks the Midwife said my baby was breach but that this is normal at this stage. I'l find out if this is still the case later this week when I have my 32 weeks check up. I think he/she has turned themselves around but I'm not sure, as the baby is rarely still long enough for me to gain a better idea. I can't believe how much I've changed these past months. We weren't planning to have a family and so it was a major shock when it happened, but now I know its the best mistake I've ever made and I'm even thinking about another addition!" -- LESLEY1975 - 8/10/2009 9:40:07 AM

Plus, everywhere I read says baby is *entering* a growth spurt. What!? Faster than before!? Uh oh... :-) Please be a kind roommate, Joe..." -- NIQUIGIRL - 7/9/2009 2:27:30 PM
"I am so happy to have 8 weeks left. I am starting to feel pressure and the fequent visits to the washroom are getting a liitle crazy and annoying especially while trying to sleep at night. I thought that I was a terrible person because I was complaining about the baby moving all of the time (especially when I'm trying to sleep at night) and kicking my internal organs out of his/her way! I feel like a whale right now, and I know I still have 8 more weeks to go. Thank you for making me feel better about not being the "glowy, happy" expectant mother!" -- ANNADIVA - 6/30/2009 8:49:02 AM
