Vitamin B-12 May Prevent Birth Defects
Women of childbearing age (especially those who are pregnant or trying to conceive) are advised to eat 400 mg of folic acid (folate) daily to prevent neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, from occurring in their babies. New research shows that vitamin B12 may also play a role.

"Many supplements contain more of certain elements then are recommended and this is typically not a concern. Check with your medical provider about their recommendations or to varify that what you are taking is ok for you. You might be able to confirm with a nurse in the office over the phone." -- TANYA_BABYFIT - 4/26/2011 11:41:12 AM
"I am taking an OTC Prenatal + DHA supplement... from walgreens.
It has twice the needed amount of necessary vitamins... but just enough of the iron & zinc. Calcium content is 200mg.
Folic Acid(folate) content is 975mcg. Plus it also contains Magnesuim 25mg. Copper 2mg. Iodine 150mcg.
I have been taking these vitamins supplements for about a month now... i've been told to take a prenatal before trying to concieve?

Am I taking too much vitamins? Should I be taking less... or should I take more?" -- SHARONDEFEO - 4/25/2011 9:36:37 PM
"Myself and my girlfriends have had GREAT experiences with a 3 bottle prenatal nutrient system called Before Baby Boost. The website is soundformulas.com. Bottle #1 is a great multiple with ginger and papaya enzyme to make it go down easy. Bottle #2 is a really great fish oil that doesn't make you burp! Bottle #3 is a nighttime calcium magnesium sleep formula. My nutritionist says that these are the best she's seen.

They also make a postnatal 3 bottle system called After Baby Boost to rebuild nutrient reserves postpartum." -- BUNNYGIRL777 - 3/14/2010 2:28:10 PM

"I take a prenatal called Buried Treasure PreNatal Plus DHA Complete. It's a liquid vitamin. I find that the liquids absorb in the body better and don't cause stomach upset. Also, this one has almost everything I need in each ounce daily. I add some more Vit. C, Calcium and Fish Oil also. No vitamin seems to have enough of these. Hope this is helpful to someone." -- SARAHSMITH1984 - 1/24/2010 11:37:37 PM
"Hi, My Dr suggested me to take Bio-e vit E tab..in my first sem, as i had prob of dry skin and itching, even though i drink 8-9 glasses of water" -- ROSHNAT - 11/16/2009 4:40:46 AM
"I would have liked to see comparisons between different vitamin brands to see which are better as they pretty much all have the necessary vitamins. I've heard some dissolve faster than others and those are the best ones to get as others won't dissolve before they are expelled. Would be nice to have some product testing..." -- LYNDAD6 - 9/16/2009 8:23:02 PM
"My Dr wouldnt take me seriouse when I said that I didnt think mine was working well. Even though I was taking a PV, my urine wasnt yellow from all that B12 and my nails were so soft.
I started taking 2 kids chewables and my urine is now a nice bright yellow and my nails are getting harder." -- FLESHOFDAISY - 3/10/2008 7:54:39 AM
"Let you health care provider know that you are still having trouble taking your prenatal. There are other options they can suggest that you may tolerate better. Be sure to eat nutritious fruits and veggies, whole grains and low fat/fat free dairy to ensure you are getting all the nutrients you can in the mean time." -- TANYA_BABYFIT - 8/22/2007 8:23:57 AM
"The prenatal vitamins make me so sick. I tried taking them at night before bed instead of in the morning but it didnt matter because I would still throw up all day and night. Now I'm not taking anything and yes I'm worried that my baby isnt getting the nutrients it needs but I can't really afford to buy anything either." -- KCGIRL - 8/21/2007 9:46:30 PM
"My vitamins left me feeling pretty bad until I got used to them. It took about 2 weeks, but it felt like the longest 2 weeks of my life. Especially since I haven't had any sickness with this pregnancy." -- BERNIE2U4 - 6/24/2007 5:01:10 PM
