"I find it amazing how pregnancy can change not only my body but its performance when it comes to an exercise routine. I have been fit all my life and an active runner for many years and now that I am with this little precious one; I can no longer do as much as I used to. I have been adjusting my exercise routine and I am having a blast with it. What a blessing it is to be pregnant." -- MARVALUSXOXO - 7/3/2012 10:28:48 AM

"I'm about 7 weeks pregnant and just found out on Mother's Day. My first Dr. appt isn't until 5/23, but I don't want to stop exercising until I finally get a consultation. I'm a fit 39 year old whose been working out for sevreral years now..just want to know how to maintain some sort of exercise routine without overduing it or put my baby at risk." -- WENDYJKANE - 5/11/2011 10:04:02 AM

"Hello, I am 8 weeks pregnant and have had 1 miscarriage. i am really concerned with not gaining alot of weight thru this pregnancy as i am very little and have a hard time keeping my weight under control as it is. My excercise before getting pregnant was riding my horses. I have 3 horses that i rode regularly which i obviously am not doing anymore. I am wanting to begin walking to make up for my loss of exercise but I am also now wondering if i can include other excercises as well even if i havent done them before getting pregnant. I have always heard it is ok to keep doing your activity as long as your body is used to it. But since i havent really worked out what does everyone recommend?" -- LAURENROST - 3/28/2011 4:06:38 PM
"I am also 14 weeks, I used to jump out of bed in the morning, and head right to gym. Some days I'd work-out 2x's a day, I loved the way I looked and felt...My 1st trimester, I felt so fatigued, I probably worked out 10x's in 2 in a half months. Even though I would never want to change a single thing, I lonnggg for my energy to be back, and my old routine, or something close! Even though I have KINDA gotten back into the swing of things, I don't push it...right now my body is strictly for my baby!" -- HEALTHYBB2011 - 3/7/2011 2:56:03 PM
"I am currently 32yrs old and 8weeks pregnant with baby number 5. This will be my first pregnancy where I have exercised. I am worried about gaining weight as it took me several years to loose weight after my last child. i have researched the net for hours on end and everywhere encourges to keep on exercising. I am still paranoid about running and situps so I have cut that out of my activities and will continue for as long as my body lets me to exercise!!!" -- HILLHOUSE6 - 1/28/2011 11:51:07 PM

"GIRLFRIENDS...HELP!!
Hi, I am on my 14th week. I used to circuit training with weights before at high intensity and I would do strength training w/ 20-25lb dumbells. Is there anyone who still excerises that way during pregnancy and feels ok? I stopped doing circuit and now just do 30min on the stair master with 1 min high intense intervals to burn 400-500 calories a session. I dropped my weights to 15lbs-20lbs and go slow. Is there anyone who still does this and feels ok?
So scared of gaining too much weight and needing to work so hard after to take it off. Obviously, I won't have too much time to do so!
Thanks,
Domor" -- DOMOR77 - 1/15/2011 10:43:00 AM

"For many ladies exercise is totally possible and encouraged during pregnancy but it is best to speak with your medical provider about specific concerns and for the exercise OK since they know your medical and pregnancy history best." -- TANYA_BABYFIT - 6/18/2010 8:37:12 AM
"Is it safe to excersise if you have possible pelvic dysfunction in pregnancy (SPD). I haven't been diagnosed, but have had pain in my pelvis area for several weeks -feel very stiff etc. I was very active before pregnancy and carried on with an appropriate exercise programme throughout my pregnancy -although now i do very, very light exercise (non cardio) and yoga 3/4 times a week (i'm 37 weeks!) however i've found that doing 15-20 mins on my x-trainer on a very low setting (level 2/3) is easing the ache/pain, but i'm worried if it is safe. Any advice please....." -- FLOCO74 - 6/18/2010 7:00:34 AM
"I am 12 weeks tomorrow. I have been doing pre natal yoga once a week, which is fantastic. Not much of a workout, but so relaxing and we learn some relaxation techniques for labour too. I have also been swimming and it's my new favourite exercise-I feel normal in the water (I have been expanding from day one!)" -- VICKYPALMTREE - 6/1/2010 7:23:32 AM
"Hello, I am 12 weeks pregnant with my first baby! i am very excited but also nervous???? i just wana have a healthy baby, i also dont wana be all flabby either. i am pretty active i dont work out much i gogo dance so i guess thats a workout too. i dance for 2 or 3 hours 4 nights a week. but i wana do some pilates and yoga too i just wana be safe too. anyone have any good preg workouts????? also everyones bodys different so someone who can do lot of cardio and be ok someone else might not it really does depend on how your lifestyle is before." -- LEARYBKA - 4/24/2010 12:04:04 AM

"I'm not pregnant I'm postpartum. Every article takes me to pregnancy exercise am I to still do these type of exercises?" -- SWEET_DELIGHT - 1/13/2010 10:50:37 AM
"I am very unhappy with the information given about pregnancy and exercise overall. I exercised before I got pregnant, but I was not exercising as much or as frequently as I should. When I found out I was pregnant, I didn't increase my activity level because I was afraid to. I bought several pregnancy workout DVDs and consumed the extra 300 calories that is recommended. I thought the DVDs were too easy, but again I didn't do more because I was afraid to. Now I am 25 weeks and I have gained more weight than I should have. I decided last week that I would no longer eat the 300 extra calories and I would attempt some of the exercises I was doing before with modifications as needed. I found that I can still do most of the pre-pregnancy exercises. I have more energy and I am happier when I exercise normally. I encourage all moms to exercise if they feel like it and don't be afraid to start a new routine. It has to be better for the baby than gaining too much weight!" -- FSUSWO - 12/15/2009 1:23:49 AM
"As long as your doctor has given you permission to exercise during pregnancy, it is safe to continue core and abdominal exercises.

After the first trimester, it is not recommended to perform any exercise while lying flat on your back. However, many effective exercises can be modified for safety during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. For safe abdominal exercise ideas, check out:

"I ran a half marathon @ 20 weeks and a 10k race @ 24 weeks. I'm still running but it's getting harder with the warm weather. My doctor said it was fine" -- KIMANDKERRY - 7/2/2009 8:25:57 PM
"I couldnt really exercise much from week 6-12 due to moving state and my consistant morning sickness (that was just like a constant hangover). Since week 12 I have been exiercising as normal- gym, yoga and walking. I dropped my weights at the gym and have added more 'yoga type' exercises and stretching as well as cross trainer and treadmill. Now I am in week 20 Ive added lots of squats to my gym sequence and also continue to love my yoga sessions.
Im enjoying exercise as much as I always have!" -- BONGO123 - 6/20/2009 5:27:57 AM
"I worked out a lot before I got pregnant, and my dr. told me it was perfectly safe to continue my routine, you just really need to listen to your body. I found that when I was the most tired, dragging myself to the gym almost always made me feel better! My workouts gave me way more energy. Obviously, if you are completely drained, your body might be telling you to take a breather. I'm 31 weeks now and I still continue to take classes and lift weights (I know my limits, and I don't go too crazy!). Spin class with a belly is definitely interesting!" -- ANNADIVA - 6/18/2009 8:42:54 AM
"I just found out that I am pregnant last weekend. I am not really sure how far along...my first doctor visit is next week. I have been feeling really drained, constantly hungry and feeling sick. I haven't been to the gym in about 3 weeks now and I am not sure if it is okay to go or not. Any suggestions?" -- CBOGLE - 6/17/2009 10:20:46 PM
"I taught Spinning last night. I'm only 7 weeks and was feeling fine but I soon learnt that my body wasn't having any of it! Half way through a sprint my body told my brain that it was shutting down and made my body feel like it's never felt before! YUK!

My members looked at me a bit funny so I had to tell them which caused a brief cheer...bless them. Any way, I've now learnt that I have to change my training ways and calm down which will be hard as high impact is pretty much all I teach. It will be good for me and obviously the baby. Going to Yogalates tomorrow night so looking forward to that." -- PITTSY11 - 6/10/2009 10:08:40 AM
"I bellydanced the entire time I was pregnant. I was dancing on a Monday and my son was born on a Wednesday. It felt great and made me very aware of my body and especially my abdominal muscles. I had to be careful not to overdo it. My troupe joked around because my doctor put me on a shimmy restriction." -- DANI2OR - 6/2/2009 12:34:05 AM
"I'm still doing the elliptical and I'm 33 weeks along. I haven't had any problems yet..." -- CARLACARLITA - 4/22/2009 11:51:06 AM

"why am I embarrass to exercise in front of my husband? I wait till he goes to work." -- MOMMYANA - 3/1/2009 4:12:00 PM
"I was in the Army with my first prenancy and I had to workout 4 days a week. One day a week we would take a nutrition or baby care class. Luckily, where I was stationed there was a program for pregnant women that was safer than our super demanding training schedule. I ran two-four miles twice a week until about 20 weeks then began walking instead. I did aerobics class, and weight training on the other days. I loved keeping fit and having an instructor to teach "pregnancy variations" to our normal workouts. I'm 4 weeks now with my second and I have been going to a local gym and working out on my first pregnancy workout plan to have a healthy pregnacy and easy labor again." -- SKINNER5463 - 3/1/2009 12:50:20 PM
"I heard that when you exercise your baby stays very still for the most part...still...I would go to the doctors and check it out
I am 9 weeks, and am very active, watching of course that I do not overdo myself." -- CHASSIS - 2/4/2009 2:39:08 PM
"i was in competitive bodybuilding when i got pregnant. i'm 33 weeks now, and i still do an hour of cardio everyday and a half hour of weights most days. my doc is fine with it as long as i have no problems. i hardly ever feel my baby move and have gone for a few stress tests and he moves the whole time and i just don't feel him. i think fit people might have more trouble feeling them... just a theory, but the muscles may make it harders. my belly was measuring small and i was figuring they'd tell me to stop working out now, but i went in for an ultrasound and the baby is measuring larger ahead of schedule! as long as you are eating enough and used to it and trust your body it should be safe... just make sure you and your doc are onthe same page! :)" -- ASHLEYANNBARKER - 12/15/2008 9:33:42 AM
"hi i am 26 weeks pregant with my fourth baby and have been going to the gym and doing 1 hour a day of cardio for six days a week. do u all think that is okay or am i harming my baby. i have not been feeling him move that often. before i got pregant i was doing the same amount of cardio." -- REEMA261982 - 12/6/2008 3:38:59 PM
"If you have any concern about exercise and your baby please speak to your doctor about your specific situation. Exercise is often part of a healthy pregnancy, but each mother is different and should consult her health care provider." -- RACHEL_BABYFIT - 3/8/2008 10:59:22 AM
"I have noticed when I am exercising everyday that my baby doesn't move as much, and when he does move it isn't as strong or frequent.
I just assumed maybe all the movement caused him to sleep more, but after reading this article I am a bit worried.
Am I doing something wrong?" -- AMYRACHELLE - 3/8/2008 10:02:54 AM
"I used to exercise very much before my first pregnancy. I dicided to quit exercising instead of slowing down or exercising less often. wow was that a big mistake i gained about 20 to 25 pounds. This is my second pregnancy and now i feel more energetic. i exercices about three to four times a week. oh boy does that help. my baby observes me and tries to join in je je je." -- ROSALIA274 - 1/14/2008 8:58:38 PM

"Also, what should be my heartrate during workouts? I also take step at least 3 times a week, and use two risers... but i have a hard time keeping my heart rate down, so i have moved down to one. thanks!" -- JUNELENTIL08 - 10/31/2007 11:12:10 PM
"I just joined today! I am so excited to have found this site... i have been looking for help in this area. I keep hearing "you are eating for two, you need to eat more, eat whatever you want..." but i dont want this kind of mentality. I want to gain enough weight to have a healthy baby, but also keep myself healthy. I have a doctors appointment next week for the first time so i will be asking a lot of excersice questions! I worked out at least 5 times a week before i got pregnant. I have dropped it to two since i am so tired lately... but i still go! thanks for all the info!" -- JUNELENTIL08 - 10/31/2007 11:10:27 PM
"I have heard that you can keep doing the amount of exersize your body was used to before you got pregnant. I go to the gym 5 days a week to a Step Aerobics class. (60mins Cardio/Step, 15 mins strength training, 15 mins abdominal) I am just curious about the abdominal workout and the Step Aerobics the farther along I get. I was not as active before and during my last two pregnancies so I'm unfamiliar with it all. Any suggestions?" -- VALENTINE80 - 8/21/2007 10:29:58 AM
"I am currently trying to get pregnant and actively on this website to help learn. I work out alot and that is one thing I fear about getting pregnant is decreasing my activity level. It says not to overheat yourself but I sweat very easily, how do I know when I'm doing to much?" -- SPARKY141978 - 3/2/2007 5:26:46 PM
"i also agree that preago is no excuse not to exercise.I do yoga for one hour 3 times a week and strengh train 3 times a week.If anyone is interested the yoga dvd i have is called Rocki's prenatal yoga its great .I purchased it at the superstore 4 a couple dolars it was well worth it. goodluck ladies" -- TAMMYBISHOP - 2/23/2007 3:23:19 PM
"Hey ladies I agree with you 100% when your lethargic due to pregnancy it's so easy to just pass on working out I do denise austins video also (Love it great workout and more importantly it's fun), I also walk my dogs daily for about 25 mins and do my ellipitcal trainer 3 times a week but it's getting alot harder now on my body but I'll make sure I fit exercise in whenever I can I have to, even with eating right and working out I'm still managing to gain weight and it's scary to think how much I'd be gaining if I wasn't exercising! Good luck ladies keep it up it's worth it!" -- BABY2ROBYN - 1/31/2007 12:06:35 PM
"I do Denise Austin fit and firm pregnancy and walk 30 minutes or more on the treadmill and I love it, the video has workouts for first, second and third trimesters and it is wonderful

"I feel that far too many women use pregnancy as an excuse for not exercising or not exercising hard enough. I continue to do some serious strength training three times a week and I feel great because of it. I think my labor will be much easier this time around." -- BRANDIRAYE - 11/3/2006 1:36:20 PM
"Bikram Yoga is safe to practice when you are pregnant! As long as you have your doctors permission, stay in the coolest part of the room, and stay plenty hydrated. I practiced Bikram Yoga throughout my entire pregnancy with my doctors support. It made me strong and confident for my delivery which was absolutely drug free and a wonderful experience. Bikram Yoga massages the internal organs and glands which provides increased blood flow not only to your baby but to all of the areas of your body that are working overtime to create life! I have a beautiful, pure, 9 pound boy thanks to the strong benefits of Bikram Yoga!

"Spinning is perfectly fine in
pregnancy, especially for an experienced spinner provided that you adjust your intensity level. Other recommendations include: adjusting your bike set-up (possibly raising handlebars) to remain comfortable as your body changes; avoiding standing out of the seat due to the changes in your center of gravity; taking frequent "postural breaks", which means sitting upright instead of leaning forward into the handlebars to ease lower back stress. Golf should be judged based on your comfort and the recommendation of your medical provider.

"I´m still doing SPINNING cycling, obviously at a much lower level, I´ve been spinning for over 10 years. It seems to cause so much debate at the gym. I feel great though....any comments??
what about golf in your 3rd trimester? My golf game has improved since i got pregnant, but i´m a little worried about overstretching on my drives." -- MCMOORE - 10/18/2006 12:48:12 PM
"It is not good, not to eat make sure you are at least getting 3 good meals a day. You have to eat it is not good for the baby, the baby will not grow properly." -- NOTSURE - 9/29/2006 5:07:28 PM
