"So glad to see this article! Growing up, my family always sat down at the table for dinner every night and had big breakfasts on the weekend. My sister and I did our homework at the dining room table before and after dinner. I have fond memories of 'helping' my mom set the table, clean up, etc. My parents still do it today even though it is just the two of them now. My husbby, on the other hand, came from a family whose parents separated when he was young. His mother was a successful businesswoman and often worked late hours while his father lived several hours away. My husband and his brother grew up eating in front of the TV and taking care of their own nutrition. I feel that I have a greater connection with my family because of this time spent together. I try to get him to sit at the table with me at least twice a week. Sometimes, I have to be creative by setting up the meal al fresco on the patio or using candles in the other room - away from the TV. :)" -- CLCANTU12 - 12/16/2011 12:49:05 PM

"I love eating as a family and it's so much easier since the kids reached 7, 8yrs and stayed up a bit later. We eat European style, nearer 7pm so hubby home to eat with us too. Kids love cooking so great way of getting them interested in trying new food and then sitting down together to enjoy it! Well worth it and I'm always amazed how many friends don't do this and comment on how nice it must be! JUST DO IT, make a meal of it even for beans on toast! Enjoy:)" -- KRISTINHAYWARD - 12/16/2010 5:20:37 AM

"Having dinner time together used to be a given. Now a days people are just to busy. It's time to get back to the basics and make time. If your going to have a family then your family should be your 1st priority. I love the time we have together at dinner. We eat as many meals together a we can, not just dinner." -- SARA4ANDFINAL - 12/16/2009 8:46:40 PM

"I agree with the benefits of eating at home. That is why I started my web site. It is for people that want to eat at home but can't figure out what to make for supper every night. www.carmenskitchen.ca" -- CARMSFIRST - 6/19/2009 4:40:08 PM

"I come from a big family, and my mom always made us come to the table and eat, it was a special time. I always had great communication with my parents and respect. Now I am a mom of 2 a three year old and a 18m. we usually eat dinner when dad gets home. I feel is a great opportunity to share, talk, ask , and the most important enjoy the moment." -- WENDYLOR - 12/16/2008 9:28:29 AM

"Teaching basic kitchen skills is a huge reason to have children present with you before, during, and after the family meal. I grew up washing and drying dishes once in a while and watching my parents (who rarely wanted help) prepare delicious dinners. Naturally, when I married I knew very little so we ate mostly processed foods for at least a year. Now that I have some experience I am much more at home in the kitchen and I love doing everything with my toddler around. She has a play kitchen now too and she bats an ice cube around our old pot with a whisk...when she is a little older I will love to let her help me. It is also wonderful to talk to everyone with no distractions (tv is the worst because nobody talks then) so we can see how everyone's day has gone, catch up on how different family members feel about each other and what people are thinking about what is going on, and help members deal with difficult events. The family meal is probably the second best way to keep the family together, after prayer (daily rosary)!" -- 25BABYMAMA - 6/22/2007 12:00:51 AM

"Yay! This article is beautiful! It's nice to read about becoming a parent, coping with changes, etc., but it's wonderful to see such a positive article about the importance of really becoming a family. Establishing good habits now will result in a life time of happiness and learning. Way to go BabyFit! Thanks for the refreshment!" -- WATERLIGHT85 - 12/16/2006 12:07:54 PM

"I have been trying to stress the importance of us eating together to DH. We were in such a rut with just the two of us - just grabbing something to eat in front of the TV... I grew up eating at the kitchen table with the whole family. I think it's important." -- LOUSMOMMA - 7/20/2006 11:46:07 AM

"This is an excellent article. I knew a lot of this information but it's good to see it reinforced. It has encouraged me to recommit to having more meals together at the the family table. I am preparing more meals at home, but we often eat separately." -- MAMAX4 - 12/7/2005 2:44:44 PM
