"You should not give your baby or any child fruit juice. It's sugar in water, and the acidicness will destroy their baby teeth. This happened to my nephew." -- KNEBLIE05 - 10/14/2012 9:08:31 AM

"Giving several ounces of water to a baby will not result in water intoxication or seizures. It is best to talk with your pediatrician before providing a child under the age of one with water to be sure it is necessary and will not interfer with breastmilk, formula or solid intakes." -- TANYA_BABYFIT - 8/30/2010 8:14:40 AM

"The worry with water is that they are empty calories and can confuse the baby to not be hungry and lose out on the nutrition from Breast milk or formula. If it is extreamly hot then a few oz of water is ok. Too much water can also posion the baby and cause seizures. My mom was instinting i give my baby at 5 weeks water to help with gas, i looked it up and every web site said no, so I wouldn't give her water. I took my mom to the drs with me our next visit and the dr told her the same thing. DO NOT GIVE WATER. It did feel good to say I told you so to my mom hehe,,,,,,,,, they say that breast milk or formula will helpm hydrate if needed." -- DANCINGMOM16 - 8/29/2010 11:16:08 PM

"About the water comment. My doctor said that during really hot summers that four oz is good to help with dehydration for formula fed babies. Breastfed shouldn't need any. I've also been told if your baby has a runny nose to follow food with water to help it go down." -- EMILIA5638 - 7/25/2010 1:33:41 AM

"Babies need their nutrition for brain and growth development. Water should not be given to babies as it is empty calories. If baby is hungry then feed them breast milk or formula and or solids if they are eating them. Once baby is a year or older then you can start giving them whole milk (not 2%) because you don't want to minimize their fat intake. Of course you should check with your pediatrician. Practice has changed since your mom had kids! (P.S. I have been a neonatal nurse for 14 years and that's what the hospital practices now.)" -- LNGSUN - 5/20/2010 10:31:54 AM

"I was told by my mother that her docter said don't give water to your baby till age 2. Because it makes the brain swell and could kill a baby. But my mother in law says that is not true that she gave all 6 of her kids water at 2 to 3 months that they would die without it. So who is right?" -- PEBBLES9991 - 6/25/2009 10:13:40 PM

"Children over the age of 2 are fine to drink 2% milk. Babies under the age of two should drink whole milk because they need the fat for proper development of the brain and myelin sheath surrounding nerves. " -- TANYA_BABYFIT - 2/17/2009 6:57:03 PM

"Has anybody heard anything about milk? My son has come along way with solids but our dr told us he is fine to drink 2% milk as long as we give him a multi vitamin too. I am still concerned because everything I have read says milk at one year of age and he is only 7 and a half." -- CHELLEBELLE13 - 2/17/2009 6:47:53 PM

"At 6 months how often should I feed my baby solids....I know that if he's eating them then he must be hungry but he has also become constipated ...was it from too much too soon!?" -- MEAGHAN1111 - 2/11/2009 10:20:47 PM

"Good advice, and helpful - except for introducing fruit juice! I thought, generally, it is best not to offer children juice. It's mostly sugar (even non sugar added juices still contain a lot of natural sugars), and if they want the taste, why not offer them fruit?" -- CROCUSBABY - 1/24/2007 5:15:40 PM

"It is so great to hear that you can feed your infant solid foods when they're 4-6 months old, when I have read and I also saw it in the news that you're not supposed to feed your baby solid foods before they're 6 months old because they develop allergies. This article was great!!" -- MGYGDL - 10/11/2006 8:41:34 PM
