"I am 3 months pregnant (12 weeks) and I am sick all of the time. I also get extreme motion sickness and get extreme fatigue. I am so miserable sometimes I just cry. And if there are small times or moments when I do feel good, I feel great then all the sudden BAM I am back sick with a crazy amount of exhaustion that comes over me. "This is my second pregnancy, and sure enough, the minute I hit week 6 the nausea kicked in, just like with my first one. First time around it continued up until the 8th month, gave me a break for a while and continued as usual for the whole of the last month. Bad thing with me is I suffer from hemetophobia (means that I feel like if I throw up I will choke and die! I know, stupid, but phobias are like that).Didnt stop me from throwing up though and almost gave me heart attacks each and every time!" -- GILLOU - 2/22/2010 7:24:23 AM

"I had "all-day" sickness and nothing worked for me twice in a row. If I had ginger ale one day it made me sick the next. Salty snacks didn't really work, until lately, either. I'm almost 12 weeks and have had a few days with minimal nausea this past week. I just try different things throughout the days and hope this will go away completely. I'm just glad I can eat some things I couldn't, like oatmeal, again. I really missed oatmeal." -- HISLILARMYBRAT - 1/30/2010 2:30:25 PM

"This is my first pregnancy and I am 14 weeks pregnant. I have been extremely sick since week 6, not to the point of hospitalization, but I've definitely gone a few days here and there not eating. I feel constant nauseas all day long and I wonder - will it ever go away? I hope and pray it will. I can definitely relate to ALL of the symptoms listed in this article. "I am on my 6th pregnancy and I have been sick for 5 of the pregnancies until the end. With my first I was sick up to 14 times a day. All I did was eat and puke and then eat some more and then puke. Luckily I was not hospitalized and was able to gain weight. With the others I was sick anywhere from 1 to 6 times a day. It really starts to wear you out, physically and mentally. My 3rd pregnancy I was lucky and was only sick for the first 12 or so weeks. I wish the Dr. would let me take the medicine that is supposed to help! But, because I'm not losing weight or getting dehydrated he won't prescribe it. Also, nothing seems to help except sleeping and eating in bed and then getting up late (not a very practical solution). I'm so sick and tired of being sick and tired! Amanda" -- AMANDAVZ - 1/12/2010 9:31:58 AM

"I'm surprised Vitamin B6 wasn't mentioned. It seems to help me a lot. Bananas are high in it so I eat one every morning. I also drink a lot of Kombucha. It is supposed to help prevent morning sickness but it also settles my tummy. I like the trilogy flavor. You can get it at health food stores. I also got AF Beta from my homeopath and it seems to really help too. If I stop doing any one of those three things I feel awful!" -- RACHAELMAE - 1/10/2010 5:34:19 PM

"This is my 3rd pregnancy, I had a boy and a girl previously, and never had issues. Maybe a little morning sickness with my daughter, but it got better by the end of the first trimester. This time, it's been BAD. Not so bad that I need to be hospitalized or even take medication for it, but it's a constant struggle. I have good days where I don't get sick, then the next day I'll "pay hommage" 3 times! I thought it would end around 12 weeks, but here I am, week 15 and I'm still sick! I have the headaches, dizzyness, vomiting, smell aversion, super sensitive sense of smell- you name it. I have found that fruit, especially citrus, seems to help alot. I also CANNOT eat red meat or chicken, so I'm getting my proteins through eggs, black beans, fish and peanutbutter. The one good part, is I still haven't gained any weight (really, truely didn't need to- promise!)" -- BPPHOTO - 1/10/2010 10:48:06 AM

"This is my first pregnancy! But I have "morning sickness" at night. I've tried ginger ale with a fresh squeezed lemon in it. It seems to work but only half the time. I eat and then soon my stomach feels like its starving!! I start feeling fatigue and dizzy and super hungry. I hate that. I have to constantly be eating something. "I so wish men could experience pregnancy symptoms for at least a week...lol This is my 3rd pregnancy and so far it is better than the 2nd i was so sick with the 2nd i was hospitalized several times..It was terrible! This is what has helped me...drinking ensure especially when you feel sick..ensure..ensure..ensure..Take it 2 bed with you at night.. Sip on it all day..It seems to allow you to eat food about an hour after you drink one. It has alot of vitamins and nutrients in it. Also my doctor said to take a 50mg b6 vitamin morning and night. Also I found watermelon to help I eat it all day and first thing in the morning. Another thing is to chew pepermint gum. When you feel kind of sick. I could never do crackers or anything it was way to dry to eat. Fruit really helps alot.. I hope I can help. It is worth it in the end." -- GLITERGIRL16 - 9/22/2009 6:01:59 PM

"I'm about 6 weeks pregnant and I mostly only have nausea with many times being on the verge of vomiting. I always try to prevent the latter by stop eating what i am currently eating and try to let my stomach settle. "When I first started feeling nauseous and vomiting, about 8 weeks into my pregnancy, the only thing I could keep down was lemonade. I couldn't even sip a cup of water without vomiting, so I bought a giant gallon of lemonade from the store, and filled my waterbottle with it all day long. "My heart goes out to all the Mothers-to-be out there who are so sick that it's difficult to function. Being a Military wife, my heart also goes out to all of you that are pregnant and don't have any help. I know what this is like. We currently have a Nanny who helps us out very part time...someone that we trust (thank goodness), but other than that there's no one. I am currently on my 6th pregnancy and am about to start my second trimester. Although I'm fortunate enough that I don't throw up, have back pain, or dizziness, I do have bad fatigue, queasiness and the chills. All very annoying when trying to raise a family and keep up with the housework and schoolwork. (I might throw in that my children's ages are 7, 5, 4, 3 and 18 months.) Some of the things that I find that help me along with my pregnancies are drinking Coke or Sprite when I get queasy. I buy the 8 oz. cans and drink it straight from the can. After burping a bit it seems to make the queasiness go away. There's also a digestive tonic that I take that's herbal-based so it's safe for the tiny baby. I get this through Heal Marketplace which you can find online. This is also good for heartburn, which I don't get, but those I know that use it says it helps for that too. I don't eat any foods that are very potent in one particular spice or food. This is especially crucial during the first trimester. I really am more of a health nut - minus the soda mentioned above (hey, you'll do anything to get rid of the queasiness!) - so I try to eat very little processed or canned foods. Some sugar is ok, but not a lot. Dairy products and any other foods that are hard to digest I try to stay away from as this seems to bring on indigestion, and hence, queasiness. When it comes to protein you definitely need that, but having a little at a time seems to make things a little better. For my snack before bedtime, I always chose something that will "stick" with me such as a peanut butter or ham sandwich. I find that if I eat vegetables or fruits ALONE before bedtime I'll pay for it in the morning. Don't forget to keep those crackers by your bedside for when you wake up! This is big help, otherwise I may find myself gagging over the toilet. As water is very unappealing and difficult to drink for me, I tend to make a lot of herbal teas that are organic. No sugar. Charlie horses in the calves of my legs have been a problem for me as well. I think it may be a deficiency in something (potassium or magnesium?? Not sure.) But after having a chiropractor adjust my legs only one time, I've had very little to no problem with this. The one thing that I wish I could fix is the chills that I get. I don't know why I get them other than it being a hormone thing, but I've been experimenting with eating protein and getting enough liquids. This may help, but I'm still not totally sure about that one. I hope that some of this may help those having a difficult time, but everyone is different and what may work for me may not work for someone else. Pregnancy is a very strange thing...I feel bad for all the men out there who have to put up with us, especially when we cry uncontrollably for NO reason! God bless!" -- MELANIEJS77 - 6/21/2009 7:35:40 PM

"My first pregnancy was a dream, i am now making up for it with child 2! morning, afternoon and night sickness! I moved 3 hours from my whole family so i could be a sahm with my now 3 year old.. So i have no back up or help it's just the 3 of us...My point!? I have no idea! Just tell me this will stop!!! "I am 6 weeks pregnant with my second child and am feeling pretty bad. Its not morning sickness, im not sure what it is or how to feel better. All day I have a wierd feeling from my throat to my stomch, like I am so full and my stomach is irritated and i need to burp. I cant burp I cant eat, I cant do much of anything. Is this normal? My mom said it might be heart burn or constipation. I dont know what heart burn feels like so i dont know if thats it. There is a little bit of a burning sensation, but its not very strong. I have layed in bed for countless days, and my husband has been taking care of things. All that will change in a couple of days for he will be leaving for a mission and will be gone for a while. "This is my second pregnancy and I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. I learned I was pregnant after the first month and I thought I was going to pass up the morning sickness but around my 5 th week I started to feel horrible. My first pregnancy I had such a hard time and was sick the entire time. I am trying to do things differently this time. Like my first pregnancy I hate the smell of garlic and anyone who has consumed it. This time I am having trouble with lettuce, tomatos, and beef. I pray that I dont have morning sickness the entire pregnancy like my first time. Good luck ladies." -- NICOLELAURENT - 10/31/2008 5:39:59 PM

"I've had the chills, enhanced sense of smell (oh, man, me and bloodhounds...) and, of course, the nausea. I had a friend get some candied ginger for me from the Asian market, and keep a little bit with me at all times. Gingerroot is too strong for me, but this works very well, and counteracts some of the sour mouth/sour stomach feeling I sometimes get. It tastes and feels a bit like a spicy gummy bear. However, the ginger really only works when I feel nausea starting to come on -- if I get caught off guard by a bad smell, *nothing* is going to stop what comes next! Since I work evenings and since my 'morning sickness' almost *always* hits right as I leave the firm at midnight, I moved my main meal of the day to lunch instead of taking it with me to work. Now, I bring a cup of yogurt and a couple of pieces of fruit and eat every couple of hours when I'm at work. I'm still generally a bit queasy when I get off, but it's not nearly so bad as it has been. Saltines help if I'm sick because my stomach's too empty, as does a slug of orange juice, neither help to settle my stomach if I'm nauseous. Mostly, I'm just hanging in there and trying not to let my stomach get *too* empty." -- LIONORS - 9/18/2008 7:51:56 PM

"I have been sick through my first trimester. The only thing I could eat was water and saltines. I still go back and forth of feeling good now that I am at the end of my first trimester and the being of my second. I have started taking Flintstones Gummy vitamins and I am having more energy and not throwing up. Though it could be that I am just getting over morning sickness. I don't know if it will help in the beginning of pregnancy and I know everyone is different. Organic brown rice was also suggested to me. Though it tasted much better than I thought it would, I don't know if it really help me. Spaghetti, seemed to be alright usually. I also like to have a glass of water in the bathroom so if nothing was in my system I could at least have water. Good luck to everyone in finding out what will work for you." -- NANCYLGP - 8/23/2008 9:51:48 AM

"I have found that baked potatoes and wheat bread help. I tried wheat crackers and YUCK. I'm so far so good w/dairy products so that seems to ease the "morning" sickness. Also, if I just cannot think of eating, I drink lemon water or lemon flavored mineral water. I find that helps curve the nausea for awhile. I TOO am feeling STARVED! It's the weirdest thing. I eat then I feel full for like half an hour and then I'm looking for food, but then I feel too sick to eat. ALSO -- for those that cannot stand the smell of cleaning products, try "Seventh Generation" brand. Scent free! I'm currently about 8 weeks and i'm looking forward to making it thru the 1st trimester :) Good luck to you all ladies!!! God bless." -- CHICAGOLP103 - 7/14/2008 5:06:55 PM

"Like my first pregnancy, I don't really classify my symptoms as Morning Sickness, however it probably is. I just feel like I am STARVING ALL THE TIME! Even after I fill my stomach, I feel like I could continue eating. I don't remember this "ravenous starving" feeling as severe in my first pregnancy. And I don't ever remember getting nauseous at anything; but things that I can normally handle are pretty much grossing me out these days too. I would like some advice on what I can eat to help me feel satisfied and full after I eat for a longer period of time. FEED ME! PLEASE! ~w" -- 2NDHEALTHYBABY - 7/10/2008 5:45:26 PM

"I am on my second pregnancy and the pregnancy sickness is back. This is the reason I waited seven years to have another child. The only difference is this time I can eat but I still throw up. Google sickness bags so that you have something when you are on the go. I am so fatigued and I hate that I am not my active self. My sense of smell has always been sensitive but now it is worse and all smells trigger my naseau. My husband had to stop wearing his cologne. I am starting the 12th week and praying it stops soon. Good luck to all, I know how you feel." -- DKGLMT - 5/4/2008 7:11:23 PM

"I dont have the full vomiting thing but I do feel nauseous for most of the day. Its great to find out that this is classed as 'morning sickness' as well as I have had very little understanding from my nearest and dearest. Everyone seems to assume that you actually have to be physically sick to be suffering from morning sickness. The good thing is it reminds me that its all going to be worth it in the end!" -- RACHMARENGHI - 1/10/2008 9:35:13 AM

"I hadn't had sickness so bad with my first two pregnancies, but it is BAD the third time around. I couldn't figure out if I had a stomach flu with no fever or what. Thank goodness I saw the chills/shivers on the list of symptoms. It is all part of the package, and I can just wait for it to pass." -- CALLICOOP - 10/8/2007 10:24:57 PM

"I had horrible morning sickness for most of my first pregnancy. So I was thrilled at the beginning of my 2nd pregnancy that I didn't feel sick at all. I thought I had escaped it! But oh...how wrong I was! At around week 6, the nausea hit me hard and fast! I was puking at minimum 15 times a day. Nothing made me feel better. Not ginger or saltines or eating smaller more frequent meals or Sea Bands. I found out about one treatment--taking over-the-counter Unisom (the tablets not the gelcaps! They have different ingredients!) Ask you doctor about this. It's has *really* saved me. I take a 1/4 tablet in the evening. Just enough to 'take the edge off' and not put me to sleep. Even a 1/4 tablet of Unisom makes me drowsy for sure but it's much better than puking my guts out all night. For me, I felt relief after about 20mins. I felt good enough to eat dinner, drink water, etc. Hope this helps!" -- JENNCOM - 9/10/2007 8:09:22 PM

"I wanted to say to all the women that experience the pregnancy sickness that renders unable to function, that there is something that can be done. I have had 2 pregnancies and i was sick with the first up unitl the 8th month. I had to take a leave of abscence in the 4 month because of severe vomiting and nausea. If you run into this problem ask your doctor for a medication that is a dissolvable pill that is taken orally. I apologize for not having name but when I do I will repost. This pill helps reduce nausea and help you keep food down. It has worked for me twice and I was able to function again. This dissolvable pill does not have a negative effect(told to me by my doctor) on the child because I have had 2 healthy babies and was finally able to enjoy my pregnancy!" -- MAYBABY08 - 9/10/2007 7:49:01 AM

"I was great till the six week mark. Then days went down hill. I have some times but they vary when I feel sick or think I might throw up. My problem is sharp pains in my upper and lower stomach. Like a stomach ache, is this normal? I looked and it is not on the list. Becky" -- BECKY- - 9/1/2007 10:34:23 PM

"This was an interesting article and I welcome the tips regarding things to try and eat to combat the sickness. BUT how can a psychiatrist or social worker help with sickness that renders me unable to function? We are not mentally ill, we are PREGNANT! This is very odd advice in my opinion. Morning sickness is a physical symptom to pregnancy." -- BEVMOO - 7/14/2007 12:48:43 PM

"I just found out I was pregnant about three weeks ago, and they are guessing me at 7 weeks, and I have been having horrible morning sickness all day, everyday. Eating or drinking or even thinking about it makes me feel nauseous. I have found that eating other foods other than what I cook at home makes it worse, but nothing works to make it go away. I can't lay down and sleep like I want to, because my husband is a full-time worker, and i have an 18 month old whos really loves me. I don't know what to do about it." -- FELICIOUSMAMA - 7/12/2007 2:29:25 PM

"I am 10 weeks, and have been sick all day, every day for the last month. I can't do anything except sleep and run to the bathroom to get sick. I can't stand it..my other children are going crazy, because it is summer vacation, and I can't do anything. I've tried all the tips, and nothing works. Even the medication the Dr. prescribed doesn't work. Help!!!" -- CATYLIZ - 6/20/2007 5:21:44 PM

"I just found out I am pregnant about two weeks ago. I should've known long before that because I have been having suffering from "morning sickness for almost two and a half straight months now, everyday, all day long. I make myself eat and drink 8 glasses of water a day at least but I am barely able to eat more than 800 or 900 calories a day because my food intake is limited to soup and bread. I want my baby to be healthy so I try eat everytime the nausea subsides but every time I eat I feel sick! Any suggestions?" -- SKINNYMOM23 - 6/4/2007 11:31:56 PM

"I am 7 weeks pregnant and my morning sickness goes on all day. Eaing small snacks frequently throughout the day helps. But one thing that has really helped me is having a tangerine. The aromatic tangy smell from the peel helps immediately, and then I get to enjoy eating the fruit too." -- TIMTIM - 3/21/2007 2:38:46 AM

"I am on week 6 and just started getting the sickness a couple days ago. I dont know why they call it "morning sickness" because for me it is "all day" sickness. It is just so annoying because nothing works for me. I cant do my normal everyday routine because I am so nauseated. I never know when it is going to come on so I just stay at home to be safe. If anyone has any suggestions, please I am all ears!!" -- ANGPRIETO - 3/5/2007 7:51:34 PM

"I have had morning sickness throughout my pregnancy, and it really only subsided around week 25, but i still get itoccaisionally. Nothing really worked, and I would even get motion sickness in the car or on the bus. I tried acupuncture, ginger, peppermint, etc. the only advice I can reccommend is this: listen to your body; if you feel like a certain thing have a little of it, and sip a drink you find soothing often, and if you suffer from dry lips, keep them moist. I was so sick I got to the point where a walk down the street would make me dizzy. I started gently swimming, the first few times just floating in the water, which helped. I sympthasize with you all, and wish you all luck, and hope you start to feel better soon." -- TULIPBEAUTY - 3/2/2007 6:18:23 PM

"I am at week 9 and have pregnancy sickness and can't seem to find anything to work either. I have tried the crackers, gingerale peppermint... but nothing seems to work. I also have motion sickness when in the car I am so sick which I am just now experiencing which isn't good at all because I actually got sick in my car which was very nasty and made the situation worse. I am told that I should be out of this stage soon and hope that is true!" -- HURRAKANE01 - 1/25/2007 1:50:22 PM

"I also have pregnancy sickness and have had it since about week 6...I am about 10 weeks now and it seems to only get worse when everyone say I should be feeling better soon...I am so frustrated with it, I am not used to being able to function mind over matter--it just doesn't work with this! I get so irritated when everyone recommends saltines or crackers...if those worked, I would be buying them by the crate and I would better by now, trust me! I have tried everything and my doctor has even prescribed me something that does not work either so I have stopped taking it...so, I am not sure anyone can help but it helps to know that I am not the only one b/c everyone around me keeps acting as if I am so strange b/c I am not feeling better YET!! so thanks, good luck to all the other sickies and keep your eye set on the prize (they say it's all worth it in the end)!!" -- ADIGREGORIO8 - 1/24/2007 11:04:23 AM

"I have Pregnancy Sickness just about everyday, and bluntly I'm just sick and tired of being sick and tired. I'm in week 32 of the pregnancy and I guess I'm just one of those women that's going to have to deal with nausea through the whole pregnancy. Anywho, this article was a real help with my problem, and if anyone can, please lend me some helpful advice on lessening the sickness." -- LILBRATONEALL - 1/10/2007 3:07:10 PM
