"I am currently at 28 weeks into my very first pregnancy and my first symptoms of SPD began at FIVE WEEKS! I have no idea why I got it so early but it has become progressively worse and I can't find a single medical practitioner that has any experience with it." -- KJCC78-B - 2/8/2013 11:48:35 AM
"I'm having the EXACT same problem. I have been feeling great and have been very active throughout my pregnancy, I am 26 weeks along and the thought of be sedentary through the duration is not a pleasant thought. Any ideas on workouts??" -- PDOOODLE - 10/7/2012 2:09:16 AM
"I have just started Physical Therapy for something similar. Not sure what the official diagnosis is but the symptoms are similar to what I just read. My pain has been in my groin on the right side and down the inside of that leg some. It's painful to lift my legs more than a foot off the ground (imagine trying to flush public restroom toilets, OUCH). I didn't have this with my other two pregnancies, but it's been ten years since the last one. My pubic bone feels like it's been kicked HARD. The PT said my hips are out of alignment because all the ligaments are naturally loose right, therefore nothing is being held in place properly. I have to wear a big, pelvic girdle belt thing and do different excersices 2x a day to strengthen the muscles and try to line myself back up.

I am an Administrative Assistant, full time, thus I do a lot of sitting which is not comfy, but neither is standing for any length of time. Hoping the PT will help and all will be well by deliver time in early May." -- JAMNCJ - 1/17/2012 10:38:07 AM
"I had SPD that started right around the third trimester mark with my first child. I remember getting out of the car one morning and all of a sudden shooting pain in my pelvis. With my second child the pain started at 20 weeks and from then on I could only sleep in a sitting up position. Now that I'm pregnant with my third the pain started at 12 weeks - before I even knew I was pregnant. That's what gave it away actually. It's gotten increasingly worse when with each pregnancy and 5 months postpartum with my second child (when I became pregnant with my third) I was still experiencing a little pain. My first pregnancy my doctors totally blew me off and thought I was overreacting. I ended up having to have a c-section because when they were trying to set me up to push (with my legs apart) the pain was too great I kind of shut down. I was so miserable with my second I brought it up every appointment until finally my doctor referred me to a chiropractor. Going to a chiropractor and being forced to lay on my side and having him put weight on my pelvis hurt so much I quit after 2 weeks (but it might have eventually gotten better, who knows). With my third I'm resigned to the fact my doctor's will never take me seriously and there's not much I can do. I cannot sit on the floor with my 10 month old because it's too painful to try to stand up. I can't get into our SUV anymore. I can barely put on socks and pants on my own. My husband has to help me out of bed in the middle of the night if I need to use the restroom - and I still have 3 months left :( It's awful ladies but just hang in there, it will get better when the baby finally comes!" -- SOONTOBENUMBER3 - 12/1/2011 10:43:42 AM
"Wow...this article coming up was right on time. Earlier this evening I was having horrible pain in my lower back and hips and could hardly move. Goign over the baby gate nearly did me in and when I laid down for a bit to help the pain when I got out of bed I could hardly walk. Now I know why!" -- CYNNIEH - 11/13/2011 1:25:57 AM
"I had this with my second pregnancy over 11 years ago. It felt like my pelvis was grinding every time I got out of bed. The pain can be all around your pelvis (front and back.) They didn't have much information back then on what the problem was. I was scared my son was stuck in my pelvis and that I could be hurting him. But he came out beautiful! Now I am 23 weeks pregnant with my 4th baby and I am having the same pains. They have not been as bad yet, but we have information like this that help me control the pain that wasn't available to me 11 years ago. I also know now that SPD can increase after you have carried a larger baby. This was easy for me to understand since I had just delivered 6 1/2 lbs twins the year before I had my son. Excersise really helps. And making sure I always lay with a pillow between my knees and that I roll out of bed seems to keep those grinding pains from returning. I now deal with more of a mild hip pain more than anything. Much more tolerable!" -- MINDY1925 - 4/7/2011 2:43:16 PM
