Is it safe to take Alka-Seltzer for indigestion during pregnancy?
Because it contains aspirin, Alka-Seltzer is not safe to take during pregnancy. Aspirin may interfere with blood clotting and cause problems during labor and delivery. However, check labels. Alka-Seltzer brand medicines that do NOT contain aspirin are safe.
Over-the-counter antacids, such as Tums, Mylecon, milk of magnesia, and Maalox are all safe to take during pregnancy. As with any medication, it is best to speak with your physician before taking drugs, including those available over-the-counter.
