I'm not a water drinker. I've been trying to drink more water, but I still only drink about 8-10 ounces daily. Are there any other ways to get the water I need? |

Our bodies are estimated to be about 60% to 70% water. Symptoms of mild dehydration include chronic pains in joints and muscles, lower back pain, headaches, and constipation. Many of these sympatoms are considered to be "typical" during pregnancy and dehydration is often overlooked as the cause. The best source of water is plain, pure drinking water. Try drinking it warm or even hot and with a touch of lemon or lime. Herbal teas such as cinnamon, orange, lemon, or apple provide a flavored alternative to plain water. Try low sodium chicken or broth mixed with water as a water source alternative. Of course there is also the carbonated flavored waters that provide some fizz to settle your stomach at the same time they provide a fruity tasting water. The bottom line is that you need lots of water each day to feel your best throughout pregnancy. Experiment with different options that provide you with the water you need and continue to try new and old ways throughout your pregnancy. Since tastes change throughout pregnancy, what wasn't appealing at month 3 might taste terrific at month 7. Tanya Jolliffe, Babyfit Nutritionist |
