How do I know if I am exercising too much during pregnancy? |

Here is my "Is my exercise program okay?" list of questions. If you answer no to any of them, you should re-evaluate your fitness program and modify as needed. 1. Is your pregnancy progressing normally? (Fetal measurements were normal at your last doctor visit.) 2. Is your weight gain normal? (Check with your healthcare provider if unsure.) 3. Is your energy level sufficient to get through your day without intense fatigue? 4. Do you feel invigorated after exercise, not excessively sore or fatigued the next day? As your pregnancy progresses, listen carefully to your body during and after exercise. If you do experience some slowing down and fatigue, you need to modify your program. Make sure you're getting enough calories and monitor your weight closely; add more calories to your diet if your weight isn't increasing at a normal rate. Lastly, I usually suggest a mix of cardio activity that includes something like yoga so you don't overstress your body. Catherine Cram, M.S.
