Before I got pregnant, I was a yo-yo dieter, following crash diets and not eating well in general. To maintain a healthy weight, I had to exercise intensely several times a week or eat a low number of calories. Now that I am pregnant, I'm gaining weight faster than average. Have my past dieting habits lowered my metabolism?

The body uses food for energy. Crazy dieting can alter your metabolism and the way your body uses food. Pregnant women who are gaining weight too rapidly first need to discover how many calories they are actually eating. The best way to do this is to use the BabyFit Food Tracker. Secondly, you should know what your activity level is like. This can be accomplished by recording how much physical exercise you are getting daily.
By using this information, you can determine how your calorie intake should be modified to slow the weight gain, yet not harm the baby's growth and development.
