Week 25: Make the Itching Stop!

Your Week-by-Week Guide to Pregnancy
-- By BabyFit

Your Baby This Week

Wow! Your baby is almost 9 inches (23 cm) long-almost half his birth length! While his weight is still low at about 1.5 pounds (0.68 kilograms), he could survive if he decided to make an entrance into the world now!

Among the most prominent changes this week take place in the skin, which gradually becomes thicker and less transparent. It's still wrinkled, as if there is more than he needs, but your baby will literally "grow" into his skin as time passes. Your baby's heartbeat may be strong enough now that other people can hear it when pressing their ear to your belly!

Your Body This Week

Are you itching? Are there tiny bumps popping up all over that are driving you mad? Many women report all-over itching called Puppps that may begin as early as this week, and could last until you deliver. If the itching really causes you distress, talk to your health care provider about an anti-itch cream. In addition, increased blood flow to your lower body may result in hemorrhoids (dilated blood vessels in the rectum that can itch or burn). Constipation can exacerbate them, so speak to your caregiver about a stool softener. Heartburn and indigestion may also increase, making you feel uncomfortable. Try not to go hungry for too long because it can worsen the problem. For more information on skin problems during pregnancy, read the related content above.

Super Foods for a Super You

Your body is working overtime to develop a brand new life, and is working harder and more efficiently every day. From everything you eat and drink, your body wrings out every last nutrient and vitamin it possibly can. It leaves absolutely nothing to waste. To help out, your food should work just as efficiently. "Super foods" give you the most punch for your lunch. They pack a heap of nutrients and antioxidants for not a lot of calorie cost. Most of all, adding some of these foods to your menu will help your body perform and adapt without having to work so hard. Find out which foods are super for you and why they're so valuable.

No Gym? No Problem!

The gym bag has been riding alongside in your car (unopened) for the last two weeks. Your membership card has made its way to the bottom of your purse. For whatever reason, it's been tough to consistently make it to the gym lately. If you're struggling with making your gym workouts, here's a secret that fitness professionals have known about for years: Working out at home can be just as effective. While gyms and classes can play a central role in any fitness program, home workouts can be an easy, convenient supplement. Learn how to plan for exercising without the gym.

"I am the opposite of the mom who posted about her 2 year old daughter and having a boy. I have a 2 year old boy and a girl on the way. I gained almost 60 pounds, most of which were in the last month. I am smaller with my daughter and am not near as hungry as I was with my son. It is funny how each pregnancy is SO different.
