San Jose, California is the fifth healthiest city for pregnancy according to BabyFit.com’s list of Top 100 Cities for Healthy Pregnancies.
Learning of his city’s top 5 recognition, San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales said, “Healthy families are one of our top goals for keeping San Jose a great place for our residents to call home. When mothers can give their babies a healthy start with good nutrition, access to medical care, and early education, it helps them get a smart start for the rest of their lives and makes our entire community stronger.”
San Jose was the number one city for the smallest percentage of women who smoke during their pregnancy, a very well respected accomplishment. Additionally, the city placed in the top twenty for the categories of the smallest percentage of women with pregnancy related diabetes and the smallest percent of women with pregnancy related hypertension.
This is not the first time San Jose has been honored. Among its numerous honors, in 2005 San Jose was named “The Safest Big City in America” based on FBI crime data from 2004. Additionally, in 2005 the city ranked first as the “Healthiest City in America” by Sperling’s Best Places.
