How do I change my nutritional goals after my baby is born?
Your body's nutrient needs will change along with your calories. You don't have to track all of your nutrients all the time, but if you would like to track some, here's how to do it:

Your plan will automatically track the nutrients you need to monitor. However, if you'd like to change, add or remove a nutrient to track, you can. From the Start page, click on the Nutrition Tracker. Next to the title "My Nutrition" is a pink button that says Change My Nutrition Goals. Click that button, then either remove nutrients by clicking on the pink "Remove" button or add or adjust nutrients by clicking the purple button "Add Another Nutrient to Track." There are 75 nutrients, vitamins and minerals you can track. (From the main page of the Nutrition Tracker, scroll down to see the nutrients you have selected to track.)

For more information on post-pregnancy nutrition, read these stories: Post-Pregnancy Nutrition Transition and Post-Pregnancy Eating 101. Post Pregnancy General Guidelines:
  • Dieting is rarely suggested before your first postnatal OB appointment.
  • Breastfeeding: On average, increase your pre-pregnancy calorie intake by 500 calories. Calorie needs while breastfeeding fluctuate depending on the child's age and frequency of feedings. Nutrient recommendations remain consistent with Pregnancy Guidelines.
  • Formula Feeding: With Doctor's OK, calories can be reduced gradually to promote healthy weight loss. Nutrient recommendations are consistent with RDA.

"I agree - I am more inclined to go back to using Spark People during my pregnancy because their database of food is much more extensive. I don't have time to add in all of these things. I know it takes time and at one point, we had the same issue with Spark People, but it seems like more people use that site more than this one... please consider dumping the food list from Spark People to BabyFit. Please!" -- SWKUHNS
