DANIELLEMARIE72, I feel mine with my index finger while sitting on the toilet. It's getting harder to get all the way up there, but I can still reach.

Mine is very soft and mushy right now -- sometimes longer than others (I haven't figured out what causes it to change lengths). As far as I can tell it is still sealed, but it's not nearly as tight as it was pre-preg.

Dude, I CANNOT even reach my cervix at this point! It is so far up there I swear it is right under my belly button. Kudos to those of you who can still feel it! Internal exams start at my doc's at 38 weeks.

I love the smell of baby vomit in the morning!

I know how to check myself, but like Amanda said, you have to know your body. I knew when I had started to soften awhile ago..but hadn't checked myself lately, so I didn't know I was dialating til Sat when I was in the hospital with pre-term. I won't check myself anymore now because checking can cause me to go into another bout of pre-term labor.

My dr. will do it at my next exam between 35-36 weeks and then they do them at every appointment after that. I think with my first I was 2 cm for like a month.

My doctor does not check for dilation until 39 weeks. The reason they said is that you can be dilated to 1 or 2 for weeks before your labor begins...so it isn't really a good indication of whne your baby will come...guess it just depends on the doctor.

It seems to vary based on each woman's Dr. and medical history.

I've been having internal exams every week since 14 weeks b/c I am a pre-term labor risk.

That answers a question I had, when do they start doing exams down there again? I haven't had one since my first visit, it's always just sit and talk, listen to baby's heart, and feel and measure my uterus. I figured they'd start going down there eventually to check stuff, but when?

Do you feel your cervix often? If you do, then you would probably notice the change. It can be almost impossible to reach toward the end of pregnancy though, so you probably need your doctor to tell you.

I hear women talking about being dilated 1 cm, etc...

Can you tell if you're thinning or dilating? Or do you have to wait for the doc to tell?
