MOMTOBE07- based on what you look like now, you might not have anything to worry about!! If you have strong ab muscles before getting preggo than gaining them back afterwards isn't hard. If you had a flabby belly before then its going to be worse as far as I'm concerned. Muscle has memory. If it doesn't remember being tight and strong (flat stomache) then it will be pretty hard to get it there does that make since?

Jenn,
It probably is a little early to assume it will never be flat. I have 4 and after the birth of #3 it took 9 months before I felt bikini ready. With this last one I have not been as consistant (hoping the change that now). I expect to have good abs again by June.

Attempting to explain the gift of FAITH to someone who has not been touched by God is like attempting to describe the world's greatest Cabernet Sauvignon to someone who does not have the gift of sight, the gift of smell, or the gift of taste. They might, on some level, acknowledge the possibility of its existence, but they will never be able to fully acknowledge, comprehend, or accept its truth in all its complexity.

at what point do we figure, ok it's not gonna shrink anymore?! im 4 and a half months pp, my stomach hasn't gotten smaller in months! it's this stupid weird bump, not like flabby fat, like a weird pregnant looking bump, i despise it, i do those core excersises, i work out everyday, i eat healthy, NOTHING is shrinking my stomach, is it still to early to assume it's not gonna go away?

Your positive experiences are encouraging to a newly pregnant woman! While I'm nervous about the weight gain, I believe I can lose it by working hard. I have been very worried about my body returning to normal - belly esp!

I know this is noraml. I have a two year old son and I gained 75lbs with him. I had gestational diabetes, so i gained a lot of weight from that. I lost only 40 lbs. Then I got pregnant with my second son and I only gained 30 lbs this time. He is 3 months old and nothing has happened for me yet, but I am working on it. I hope that I can get back down to what I was before I got pregnant with my first son. If there is anything that I can do to help I will try. If I find something that works I will let you know. What I am doing to try to lose the weight is walking, setup, and eating right.

I am a happy mother with a 2 year old son and 4 month old son.

I agree with "normal" moms, such as myself, take the same amount of time being pregnant to get my body back to it's somewhat original shape. My ds was 9 months old on Sunday and I am back into my jeans and weigh only 2 lbs more than pp. I am setting a goal of 10-12 more lbs to lose and then it should be great. I am not looking for a celeb body. My belly is out of shape at the bottom but my bikini bottom covers that. My hips are wider and my inner thighs have an inch that I can pinch and it only is noticeable to me. In the spring when I can run and walk outside again and then swim in the summer it might all just go away. I am one of those "I am fat" moms but have learned to love the new me. I gave birth to 2 beautiful and healthy babies. I am planning on having more as well. Here is to the "normal" women!

Cathy thank you for your response! I was just thinking about this. Plus I had my second c-section 8 months ago but I think I'm really being too hard on myself. I just can't stand the look of my stomach and it's depressing me. I realize now that I have probably had to high of expectations. It's so hard to see these celebrities all over the media who look 100% right after having a baby. It makes me feel like that is how I'm supposed to look and if I don't look that way I'm not trying hard enough.

Don't get depressed about the slack skin on your tummy-it can take up to a year for your skin to tighten back up. Exercise helps reduce tummy fat and tighten the muscles that support your abdomen (which helps reduce a belly that protudes). You can help speed the recovery of the tummy skin by eating a diet rich in nutrients (especially fruits and vegetables) which will help rebuild the tissue. Also, avoid tanning-the UV rays break down collagen-the very substance that you need to increase to bring back skin tone.

No one can predict how your body will recover from pregnancy, so don't let your doctor's comment that you may not regain firm skin tone upset you. Just do all you can to keep fit and healthy so you provide all your body needs to repair!

I'm not sure as I haven't lost all the weight just yet... Walking is very good while pregnant and swimming is too. Didn't do as much as I should have during pregnancy, I gained 40 pounds. I have a 2 month pp pic in my gallery and a before pic. Not too drastic but is different. I've been working out the last 2 weeks and have lost 5 pounds:) I only have 15 to go! I look alot better than I did last month and I can fit clothes better. good luck to you all!!

Doctor told me today that the flabby skin on my tummy would never fully go away. He said people are made differently and he'd seen enough women to know that mine would not go back to normal...depressing, huh! So, not everyone goes back to normal, but others do...who knows.

Oh no, you aren't discouraging at all!! I would be thrilled to wear a bikini again and look okay. You should be proud of yourself. You lost all the weight, too??? You go girl!!!

I have to say, I don't think everyone's will go back to normal. Part of it is genetic I think. My mom's never went back either, and we both lost all the weight. My son is 2 now (almost), and I am 6 months pregnant w/ my second, and I had lost all the weight (40 lbs.) and was working out a lot, and have very strong abs, and was using firming creams, but my skin just never quite went back, and there is a small layer of fat I never had before that just wouldn't go away, no matter how hard I worked. I did wear bikinis though, and it looked okay. Not as good as pre-baby of course, but some people just never go back. I don't want to be discouraging, and it can get better than it is probably, but mine never really went back to normal.

Mine is mostly back to normal, but I've still got 20 lbs to go. I'm sure if I worked out a little harder, and ate a little better, it would be better than before! Other than the stretch marks :(

It probably took 6 months for me to feel like it looked and felt normal though. I didn't workout hardcore though.

My SIL had her first last April, and we couldn't even tell she was pregnant.. even at the end. She gained about 20 lbs, but is super thin to begin with. The DAY she came home from the hospital with my niece she was flat as a board! She doesn't look like she EVER could have had a child, lol. Everyone is different and if you don't bounce back right away, it WILL happen :)

the first five weeks my stomach was huge. week eight i noticed a difference. i was eating super clean, low calories, and working out. i did a lot of ab work too. by three and a half months i was somewhat normal. Not where i wanted to be, but i could fit into my old clothes. you will be fine, give it time and just enjoy your little one.

yes yes yes you will lose the belly.

After the first, I did lots of situps and crunches and diet of course. Then I started forrest yoga and my core was very strong.

This time around I did lots of pilates and people are amazed at my belly at 6 weeks pp. check out pilatesstyle.com for workouts in old magazines.

YOU CAN DO IT!

Hopefully someone that gained a lot of weight during pregnancy will be able to help me!

My daughter is almost 6 months now, and during pregnancy I gained a whopping 69 lbs. I was able to lose it all really fast, and weigh couple of pounds below pregnancy weight. I am at 133lbs & 5'6", I am hoping to go down to 125 as a permanent goal.

But...I still have a flabby belly, I am sure that it is normal for most mommies that have babies...But does it EVER go back to normal with working out?

I am really hoping to wear a bikini this summer :)

Oh & I am using Loreal firming cream, hopefully that will somewhat help!
