These sound like really good responses! Makes me feel better about caring for my next LO's belly button!

PS: My DS's cord didn't fall off until he was three weeks old.

At day 7, Finn's cord was just hanging on by a thread and I snipped it off with scissors. It is all dried up by that point and they can't feel anything it.

The homecare nurse was surprised that I did that, but it wasn't any problem

(If there was bleeding around the cord, you could worry, but otherwise I am sure that it is just fine)

My Lo's got ripped off on accident when changing his diaper too! It was pussing and the opening wasnt closed yet- so they put something on it to help it close. You can call your ped if youre worried about it!

I did the same! They can't feel it so don't worry. Just don't pull it off anymore, Lacey's hung by a moist thread and finally fell off at a diaper change. My pedi told me it was fine just keep applying alcohol and it will be fine! Her's fell off around day 8. I freaked too, don't worry!

No, there was not any blood and it doesn't seem to cause her pain. There is a little bit of the cord that is hanging on by a thread, and I have been applying alcohol to the "moist" looking part and she doesn't seem to be annoyed or in pain by me doing so. How long did it take for your little one's to fall off? Now I am so scared to feed her because she squirms so much that the rest will rip off. This new motherhood stuff is great! Thanks again for the help.

Was there blood? Lots?

I would call the doctor, but s/he will probably just advise routine care, with alcohol swabs, or whatever you've been doing all along to care for it and help it dry.

I think it'll be okay, depending on how much was removed.
