I had a similar situation when I was in Kindergarten. My mother put me into the Gifted and Talented Program, most elementary schools have this. My parents could not afford to send me to a Private Montessori school like they had wanted for me. They supplemented this with providing me with all the materials I could ever ask for to develop my own mind, as well as put me into foreign language classes and girl scouts. My whole family encouraged reading and devoted countless hours to just read everything they could to me so that I could learn more that way when the reading material was a bit tougher. School was boring education wise, but provided the social development, and you really cannot supplement that.
Just encourage your sweet little smarty and teach him what you can. There are so many ways to learn beyond traditional schooling.

Have you considered home-schooling? You could probably tutor and/or run a small private school from home and make AT LEAST what you make now...

I am a public school teacher and have always thought children get a good education in public schools...that being said now that my son is in Kinder, I am not happy with his experience so far. I know what and why the teacher has done but it makes me upset. I worked hard to teach him to read prior to kinder. I had hoped that school would take over from that point and continue his progress. Unfortunately this isn't the case. He has sat in class learning all the intro to reading skills again even though he currently reads 2nd grade level. I know as a teacher it is hard to challenge kids that are ahead but then I don't want him to go through school bored. I want more for him. I don't want to continue to have to teach him at home at night because he didn't learn what he could have during the day. Thoughts??
