Hi, my baby boy will be 4 months old tomorrow and I bf on demand, day and night. He sleeps with me as well and I got my period 2 days ago. I was hoping it wouldn't show up until at least six months, but here it is! And it came back with a vengeance too, lots of cramping! But my doctor told me to expect it to be back soon when she examined me at 2 months and my uterus was already back to normal.

Wow, I would of loved to say bye bye to my cycle for 6 months. My son is 2 months old and I started a week ago :( Ive seen my doctor and everything is perfectly normal some people do not get a period while nursing others go right back on track.

I hope this will ease your mind...I have three kids all I have nursed on demand and no other foods except breast milk til 7 months. I have not hormone imbalance and my cycle returned at 6 months with my first, 5 with my second and 4 with my third. I was heartbroken with my first thinking that I had not produced enough milk for him and that I had not nursed properly but after a visit to my lactation consultant she weighed him and checked me out and said that I was fine, he was fine and some women (especially more fertile) just start cycling early. I have always been extra fertile to the point that I conceived all three of my kids the first month I "tried". Although I practice NFP.

The return of my cycle did nothing to halt my nursing and I continued to nurse my first two till 15 months and I am currently nursing my 14 month old.

I hope this helps!

Aimee

I have heard that if you have an hormone imbalance you will start ovulating regardless if you nurse on demand. I nursed on demand day and night slept with my baby and still my cycle returned when he was 6 months old. Have any of you had the same problem what could we do?
