I still like Cameron too for a boy, but I know that has nothing to do with your list :) But it would go well with the other boys' names I think :) I do like Elliot a lot and I don't think the 7 yr old would mind! That's not that close anyways...I wouldn't worry abotu it if you like the name that's all that counts!

Roark (from 'Howard Roark' The Fountain Head - Ayn Rand) I love it... may use it ourselves if I can convince DH lol.
I really know what you mean by having trouble with boy names. We have always like the name David/ Davin, but now that we are having a boy we aren't that fond of it anymore lol. And we are NOT going by my inlaws suggestion on family names... Jouko Antero K... is NOT on our list of names!!! lmao

I know you said no repeats on the "A" but I just love Atticus (as in Finch/To Kill a Mockingbird). Or how about Harper as in Harper Lee the author.
Also like Oscar as in Wilde :)
Tennessee Williams had some good plays but no useable names in any of them :(

emory and emmitt were on one of my lists (of course, dh doesn't like). and i adore elitot (literary connection ts eliot) but i have a friend w/ an eliot, tho he IS 7 yrs older than this little one so maybe it doesn't matter?
i love the name finley too (we have a road here called that and every time i pass it, i think, i like that name!) but our cat is phineas and we often call him phinny so i think that's too close.
i'm loving the creative juices you guys are spreading my way!!! feel free to keep throwing them out here!!!

OK, here are a few with literary connections:
Walt (strong but gentile) Twain (yes, as in Mark, but cooler) Bram Oscar Edmun Shaw (actually a last name, but cool first) Steele (another last, but cool first) Christian (as in Hans Christian Anderson) Anderson (love it as a first name)

my nephew is sean miles, otherwise i love that name!!! and same w/ luke, we have two friends w/ boys named luke (well, one is lucas, and goes by luc). i like the name holden but have never read catcher in the rye so have no idea if it's a "good" literary name! and i like liam ok, except it is an up and coming name (tho no more so than perhaps connor, which there were none of when we named him and now are lots), and my ex has a kid name niam and i don't want anyone to think i'm copycatting! we had 3 great boy names--they're taken! this one is proving much harder!!!
just for reference, here are some that have made it on my like list but have not won over dh yet: quincy owen vaughn (this might be my personal fave but he insists it's awful) dh likes beau (and i do agree: beau green sounds like an athlete) but i'm not sure i love it i do like jasper but honestly don't like the twilight connection

hi friends... if any of youa re like me, you love thinking about baby names, so whether you're pg or not, feel free to chime in!!! i am desperate for boys' names!!! nothing feels right, even the names we loved w/ previous pregnancies. w/ avery the next contender was riordan, but that just doesn't seem "right" anymore. other names we considered at the time were graham and rhys as first or middle possibilities. dh used to love rhys and i mentioned it again (i think i re-love it) but he was very iffy.
so, my criteria for names: 10000000000% not too trendy. also, while i love some of the staid and old fashioned names coming back for girls, not so much a fan of the boy versions, eg william, stephen, george, etc. (no offense to anyone w/ these names; they've just never been my style). also, since we've kind of gone w/ surname-y sounding names, i'd like to stick w/ things that either are, or sound good w/ them. and i think i'd prefer NOT to use any of the consonants we have so far: Sh (S i think would be fine, such as silas/simon), C, and the vowel A. last wish-list: i'd love love love to have a literary connection to this name. that was achieved in my girl's name: Estlin (pronounced esslyn) Claire. Estlin is ee cummings' middle name and he's my most favorite poet ever. however, i was so in love w/ it for a girl's name i just can't see using it in a boy's name, tho it is a possible middle contender. regarding literary connections: you'd think this would be easy but the faves i have are pablo (neruda) which doesn't go w/ our irishy names, or the books w/ good characters are all kind of plain, but i figured i'd just throw that out there!!! (oh, i do really like emerson right now, but i'm actually not such a huge fan of ralph waldo, so.... meh)
