I've noticed it w/ my kids as well and when I watch other children. Its really odd when Im caring for a baby and they smell so different but you have to cuddle them a lot to soothe, feed and care for them. I've finally got used to the smell of my neices and nephews that moved closer to us, but for the first few wks anytime I watched the girls ya it was strange how the senses reacted.

I notice this a lot when Layla is at the neighbor's house for a while. She always comes home smelling like meat and a little bit like cigarette smoke (although I know they don't smoke in the house). Yuck. It's actually so bad that I prefer that she play with the neighbor girl at our house.

I used to notice this when Michael was at a home daycare. I don't notice it now that he's in pre-school.

I used to be bothered when Isaac came home from daycare smelling of someone's perfume. But I guess they don't get so close to the preschool teachers (or he's always busy running round outside) because I haven't noticed it lately.

But no, you're not weird. It is a primal thing I think.

I get that sometimes too. A few months ago, I watched two little boys. I had a hard time taking care of them because their smell was different from my kids. I wonder why we do that?

I get this weird feeling when either of my boys has been someplace and comes home smelling different. Like when Benjamin goes to school, he comes home smelling different. Not bad, just different like someone else's perfume/air freshener or something. It only ever bothered me before when he came home smelling musty from my in-law's basement. They have come back from my parents' smelling like their house, but it is a familiar smell (home). It seems so primal - animal instinct like.
