JHMEYER- I'm delievering at Tuality in Hillsboro. same place I have had my other 3 children. they told me that hospital maitanance has to 'approve' anything that get's plugged in- and that doesn't happen often. St. V's might be different. I would call and check or your dr. might know.

I remembered one other thing. My bag is in my car already, but the camera and phones and chargers are all here in the house. So I am putting a note right by the door that tells me to bring camera (with the card) and phones with chargers. I just hope I read the note when the time comes.
RAYA.MCMANN: I am also delivering in Oregon - at St. Vincent. Which hospital doesn't allow you to plug anything in? Which hospital are you going to? Thanks!

I checked about the pluggable stuff ahead of time and it is fine. They actually advise that you bring your own fan since they don't have enough to go around. I am glad that I have been in both L&D and Mother Baby (after the delivery) for a good stay. I know what I am going to need and what to leave at home as well as general hospital procedures. I have been really impressed with the hospital and staff thus far.

I noticed some people are packing/ taking plug in type stuff. Maybe it's different where you all are at, but here in Oregon at the hospital I deliver at you aren't allowed to bring AYTHING that plugs in: i.e: radio, hair dryer, fan, cell phone charger. I'm lucky they have hair dryers in the bathrooms in the rooms, and radio's with CD players, and tv with DVD players, but I don't have a way to charge my cell. I'm usually only there about 24 hours so it's not a biggy. Thought I'd tell you all, just incase you were planning and hadn't asked the hospital their policy.

Christa~ My real name is Becca. Thanks for filling me in on some very important details. I did remember that there were not showers in the rooms but I didn't know that the showers where only semi-private. I am so bummed out by that. I kinda hope I get that tiny room at the end of the hallway that does have a private shower. I know it's super small but, I only plan on having DH with me so, I don't think I'd mind. I really want to try the tub too. Marna told us it's only used once every 3 months so, that's a bonus.
Thanks again!

Bags are packed ands already in the car. I got sample sizes of all my toiletries in addition to a new toothbrush so that I could pack them ahead and not forget anything.
Toiletries Phone/Charger Camera Nursing Bras Small Fan Birth ball Frozen Water Bottles (massage & drinks) Quarters Cards Book Baby Outfit 1 Diaper 2 Nursing pads Cruddy Underwear a few wipes Recieving Blanket Burp cloth
Sounds like a lot but it isn't really. I will wear the hospital gowns instead of my own PJ's and will grab an outfit to leave in on our way out since I don't know what will be clean.

I wore my contact lenses with my last one in 2002 and am planning to wear them this time but haven't actually asked this midwife. I can see how they could be a pain if you have a long labor and they get kind of dried out but I guess you could always take them out between contractions. I have glasses as a back up and will take them too.

RAGARZA- I wish I could remember your real name! Sierra Vista has tv, but they don't have anything to play a video or DVD. They have all the gear you would want in labor, too. Rocking chairs, birthing balls, a birthing bar (I wish I knew what it was), and the pantry for coach. The showers aren't in the room, and that is a big bummer.
That reminds me that our nurse advised a bathing suit top or sports bra for use in the showers because they are only semi-private.
I have my bag packed and in my car. It has been there for a week. Dr. said to get on that at my 36 week appointment.

When is everyone packing there bag? I'm due the 20th and I haven't done mine yet. Also, I think I'll be getting my tubes tied while I'm there so that will be a new experience for me. I know what I brought before, but I'm wondering what extra stuff I should bring since I'll be staying longer?!

I didn't read all of the way down so this may have already been suggested, but something to read (a.k.a. a trashy magazine) was really nice to have. We didn't have a lot of visitors and when we felt like we needed a break from all of the medical issues going on, my husband and I escaped into the magazines and tried to pretend life was normal. (We are really lucky to have a baby who slept a lot in the hospital.)
If you are there a long time in early labor and aren't progressing it's also good to take your mind off of things.

It is a softer exercise ball. I loved the one I tried in our birthing class. The hospital we are delivering at has them for the asking. Your nurses should be able to get you one to try.
what is a birthing ball, I haven't taken any classes and I don't know what this is.

I brought a lot of the same stuff when I had Isaac last Sunday and I didn't really even use some of it. I brought two nightgowns just in case own got ruined but honestly I just wore my hospital gown because it was comfortable and also super easy to breastfeed in. I also had socks(didn't wear cause I was too hot), extra underwear(just wore the sexy stuff they give you,ha), going home clothes for me(did wear), a going home outfit for Isaac but the other days he just wore the outfit the hospital put him in. It was good to have that stuff but I didn't use everything. Also had a book, birth ball, extra money for vending and lots f water

I have packed most of what everyone else does. The only other thing I can think of that I packed was the baby book to put the baby's footprints in. Our hospital put the baby's footprints on sticky labels that we then transferred to our book (with DS), but I'll take the book just in case they do it differently now.

I'm putting together a list of things I will need to pack for the hospital while I'm there for labour, during my stay and as well as for the baby. What are some of the things you guys are bringing? I don't want to forget anything!
