I also have had 3 D&C's and a D&E E stands for evacution which means instead of scrapping they suck it out. they do these when the pregnancy has ended and is a certain point along when it is possible that even after a m/c there still may be products in there and so they dont cause an infection. Most of the time you are under a general which is much nicer than being awake for it

Hi Michellabella!

I had a D&C back in May. The D stands for dilation and the C stands for curettage which means scraping. Basically the Dr puts something on your cervix to make it dilate, then they scrape the inside of your uterus out. I had one because my baby's heart stopped beating somewhere between 7 1/2 weeks and 9 1/2 weeks. My body wasn't naturally miscarrying on it's own, so my Dr wanted to go in and get it all out. They put you under so you're not awake for any of it. HTH.
