It sounds like your body was in a storage mode while you were breastfeeding and perhaps it was because you were not eating enough to support breastfeeding and running and a busy lifestyle with working. It does seem counter-intuitive to need to eat more and more when you aren't losing weight but when the weight doesn't come off when breastfeeding full time, it suggests your body is not getting enough energy to release the maternal fat stores. This can be backed up when the weight comes off after the breastfeeding stops.

Tanya - I was wondering what calorie range you recommend for weight loss when breastfeeding? It is around 2300-2500?

I am 35 weeks preg and have gained 41 pounds so far. I anticipate I will gain 50 pounds before the baby is here. I worked out until 33 weeks until I got bad SI joint pain and have to rest more.

My first preg I gained 41 pounds. I started running again when he was 5 weeks old. Lost 20 the first 2 weeks and nothing else until the baby was 3-4 months old. I believed at that time I followed your advice to eat more to lose weight while breastfeeding. I lost another 5 pounds or so but I can't remember how much I was eating! I started having supply problems due to pumping at my job and struggled with that until I weaned my son at 13 months. Did not lose anymore weight until I weaned.

I do have a history of dieting. When I weaned I lost 20 more pounds in about 2-3 months. It was the easiest weight I ever lost, it just fell off. I was even below my pre preg weight.
I am also on thyroid meds.

I would love to lost more weight by bfing this time and want to start off eating enough. What do you recommend? i really do not want to be 30 plus pounds overweight for a year! Thanks for your help.
Amy
