I'm a fitness and dance instructor - I just finished my last class last week and I have just over a week before the baby is supposed to be here! I can't wait to get back on my feet at full speed without feeling lopsided :)
I was a bit nervous at 1st but with every class I became more comfortable. It is also nice when you start to have a following and have people who always sign up for your classes session after session. I never stop studying....the library is a great free resouce. My mom has exercise on demand which I love to watch when I am there. I get fitness, shape, and health mags and clip the exercises...I keep a binder with different moves to vary my sets all the time. You will get more comfortable and the more knowledge I attain the more confident I am also. Hope this helps.

Did you ladies find a mentor to watch first? And how do you get yourself to feel more comfortable teaching? Is it just the more you do it?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you! Yes, I am still working out on my own. I do Aqua, and Spin. I also have a stability ball so I do my leg lifts, and some light weights. I've been going to the gym 3-4x's a week. Doing what I can, but it's getting harder. MM anytime!!

Hi! I'm certified in Group fitness. I also teach Spin, aqua, pilates, step, body works (strength training) I'm taking a break from teaching for now and just working on myself till the baby comes. I have my hands full with two other kids.

It will depend on the gym. Most gyms require at least a national cert, like AFAA group fitness.
Some gyms, such as the one I work at, only really hire Les Mills Internationally certified instructors.
So it really just depends!
Good luck!

Now that I'm not pregnant I want to study for a personal trainer certification. If I get certified can I teach a kickboxing class or do I also have to be certified in group fitness?

Hi, It's been a while since I last posted. As you can see from my due date, things are getting busy. I haven't exercised very much during my pregnancy...too much to do. Still working full time and between the move and being on time for work, I am just exhausted. I walk more than before I became pregnant so I am at least doing something. I totally plan to exercise regularly once baby is born. I can actually use my stepper as now I have ceilings that are unreachable - used to live in a basement apartment. Of a house :(( Stopped doing my prenatal yoga a couple of months ago...too boring. Looking forward to taking long walks in the coming months Anyway, I hope you are all well and having healthy pregnancies. I'm due in a couple of weeks and am still feeling great - aside from being a bit tired...hard to get comfortable most nights. I am very thankful and looking forward to an all natural delivery
Good luck to all!

No, unfortunately, we don't offer any pre-natal classes at my gym. However, most of the regular pilates moves can be done throughout all of pregnancy, with some minor modifications. I taught up until I was 7 and a half months along. I only stopped then because I had some blood pressure issues, and wasn't allowed to go to the gym anymore.

I teach pilates and a total body strength class. I would love some new ideas!

Did I forget to mention that we are moving too?? lol This Sunday in fact. My days are filled with work and then home to pack, pack and pack. By the end of the day I'm exhausted. Isn't that a workout in itself??lol.
I'm hoping to get more walking in once we're settled in the new place and back into something more physical. I have weights at home as well as a pregnancy Yoga DVD, but used to working hard in aerobics/weight class twice a week and working with the heavier free weights other days, I hardly feel like I am working out at all. I find it hard to 'take it easy'...lol
Also hoping to find a pool and do some lengths. Not a total couch potato, do a lot of walking, but also feeling 'bad' about resting so much.

I love the eliptical and arch trainer at the gym, but walking is what I do the most. I love crossfit exercise routines, but I have had to scale back so much that it is depressing me. I hope this helps

Hi, I'm a certified personal trainer...thinking about pre and post-natal myself... But have lost the desire to exercise for the past few months Just too tired - not getting a good sleep these few weeks.
What else is everyone doing to stay fit - well as fit as you can during these great changes??
