Thank you Cathy. You are very sweet. I just think my baby loves to eat. I can't remember how old my baby was the time I wrote this post but I think he was around 8 or 9 months. He just turned a year. It's funny that you mentioned about nursing while he is sleepy because I have noticed if I feed him while he is drowsey or very sleepy he'll nurse so much better. I think he knows that his brother and sister are just outside his door playing and he just wants to join in on the fun. I'll keep trying to do that and see how he does. Thanks.

You don't say, but I'm guessing that your LO is about 8-9mo from your description of his distractedness? It's totally normal at this age. Try nursing him when he is quiet and drowsy, ready for naps or bed. Try giving him a dream-feed last thing at night before you go to bed.

4 jars does sound like a lot of babyfood in one sitting! But if you and the doctor are happy with your baby's weight gain, then no worries, he's obviously just hungry! And you must be a great babyfood cook - you should write a recipe book and make your fortune! :-)

Give your him time. It's totally normal to go through a stage when he is distracted. As they get older they also become more efficient so even 5 minutes on each side is beneficially. Try not to stress about it, but be consistent.

Hi, my name is Jennifer I just joined babyfit. I could use some breastfeeding advice. My baby will only nurse for 5 mins on one side then 5 mins on the other side. I have tried everything that I can imagine. After the 5 mins I have tried to bring the boob to him. I have tried guiding his little head toward the boob. I have tried to place the nipple on his cheek in hopes that he will latch on again. After the 5 mins on the one side I have gone to the other then just kept flip flopping him on each side in hope that he will get the good milk. He refuses. He will arch his back, cry. I have tried taking him in his room away from the other kids (I have 2 other children). He is just so distracted. I have even tried placing him down on the floor to play for a while then placing him back on me to nurse.
The only other solution I have is to limit his solid food intake. I make my own baby food but I would have to say he eats approximately 4 jars of baby food in one sitting.
I'm really hoping someone has some advice that I have not thought of yet. Pleas help me.
Jenn
