I believe the correct protocal whenever you received duplicates of the same gifts is to give one to me. Yeah.. I read that somewhere.

I would exchange them and let your dad know that she already had those items but you exchanged them for _____ which you are sure she will enjoy.

I don't think it's rude. I'd take it and exchange it in a heartbeat. Most people seem to be understanding about things like that, especially since it's really hard to buy for toddlers. They seem to have everything! lol

What is the right thing to do when you get double of gifts? My Dad got Lydia four gifts of which two were dulicates. Not exact dulicates: A musically play table & a ride one she already has both just by different makers. She has had her other two since last christmas. I know where he purchased them so is it rude to take them back and get her something else? I have been known as that person that will return stuff if I don't like it but that is usually for me. I don't want to be rude if it is a gift for Lydia.
