Yay Nathan!! Lol have dad come and look at it. We do a lot of that around here too. This is a good age for some potty humour too. They really get a kick out of it. Everytime dh is getting ready for work in the bathroom Hannah has to go. He says "why do you always come in here and stink it up when I'm in here", kidding with her of course. She thinks it's hilarious. I told her he likes it stinky. Now when he's getting ready she says "Dad I'm gonna stink it up for you just the way you like it".

My Mom always suggested the backyard thing--(when we were in her backyard, b/c we don't have one:-)--but I have an announcement to make, LOL! He did a poop in OUR toilet @ home last night--Every day this week he had gone #2 1 or 2 times at daycare so we are NOT giving him a pull-up to go #2 @ home AT ALL! In fact, I refuse, and follow-up with a pep-talk about how he can do it at school, so it should be the same @ home, etc... So, last night he said that he had to go pee, but ended-up with a poop in the toilet ---and he called Daddy right away to see it--LOL! I hope this will just continue....
Thanks for all your support ladies, as usual :-)

Have you tried to go to the bathroom together? You on the big toilet and he on the potty? Tommy sometimes liked it when we were sitting there together like it's our "special" moment LOL. Now he just orders me to leave and close the door. I remember how Tommy started using the toilet for pooping though. It may be strange to some people but he started liking it when he was outside and was naked and could squat down in our back yard. I don't know if it's a good way to start or bad habit but he went poop outside lot of times and just loved it, I just had to run behind him to scoop it up and then from all the sudden he started using the toilet too. Maybe it's a worth to try it? (of course only if you have a private back yard, I wouldn't let him do it in a park or something LOL). Good luck.

i can imagine the celebration when he does go on the toilet or potty, you will be dancing round the room, i have to say that the single most important factor for us is definitely demonstration, does he get to see daddy go? or have any influencial friends that may do it infront of him.
i know it seems a bit odd, but to see other people do it seems to be a pretty big motivation with kids.
Also the more you stress and get wound up about it the more he will resist.
I admit to getting very frustrated with Ashley and putting her in a cloth diaper as punishment for pooing her pants, but it was pointless because what are diapers for? LOL
If it is just poop and not wee you may like to consider swim diapers, as you are emptying it into the loo anyway, they seem to go through the wash just fine then you can reuse them, or maybe just switch to washables so that you don't feel like you are wasting money, maybe even the change will be enough to motivate him.

Just keep sticking to what you're doing. A reward chart is a great idea too b/c he'd prob even understand what its for etc. Once they start going a couple of times they are usually ok. Hang in there! It'll happen! :-)

Well we are half way there, I finally got Wyatt to poop on the potty, but he is not consistent. He will go right before naptime, then want a pull up, just in case, then go in the pull up. I know I should take it away as it is a crutch, but we have had so many poop incidents around here that I am just happy it is in a diaper and not on the wall.
Wyatt acted petrified of pooping on the potty and I managed to get him to poop with toy rewards. I didn't go out and buy him new toys, I just boxed up a bunch of the toys that were overflowing from the toy box and he could have one if he farted and two if he actually pooped. I figured farting would get him used to the action in the sitting position because Wyatt used to stand to poop.
Good luck and I wouldn't worry, it will happen in time. My dad has five kids, two boys and three girls. He said the boys were fully potty trained the summer before kindergarten, while us girls were fully trained by 2-3. Each kid is different and boys just seem to train later.

Thanks Leah--I was hoping you would see this--I was also going to send you a message on FB, but tried here fist anyway.
I know it's a control thing for him and on one hand he sees how much it bugs us sometimes and he plays the game......so mny times he has looked me seriousely in the face and says "don't worry, tomorrow I will do poo on the toilet Mommy" and I believe him b/c he looks so serious! We are just worried that it's not normal but I guess it can be, which is good to know we are not alone, again!
I let him pick-out his own potty too b/c he said he would go in a potty and he doesn't want use it either; I guess we just have to be encouraging and patient and maybe I will get the reward chart out again?!? I thought that was done--LOL!
Thanks again!

I can comiserate. Owen won't do it either. He will pee on the potty no problems...but he's a "sleep pooper" and will not wake up to go - so he's still in diapers overnight.
From talking to our ped - its VERY common for kids to not want to poo on the potty and/or to wait to go in a diaper (and not to be overnight trained, like our case). The more you push, the bigger deal its going to be - 3 year olds are ALL about control...and their poops are definitely something they can control. So...if you make a big deal...he's just going to keep going with it.
I would say, maybe start a reward chart? If he is physically able/ready to poo on the toilet and its just a stubborness/control issue..that might change his tune. If he gets a sticker for trying to go/going poo...the positive reinforcement could help encourage him to stop using the pull ups. You could even go as far to say that so many stickers = a treat if you wanted...whatever you think will motivate Nathan.
If he still resists ...keep trying, but try not to let him see you get frustrated, embarrassed etc about it. Just remember that one day he WILL do it on the potty...just in his own time.

Well, I am embarrassed to say that Nathan STILL won't go 'poo' on the toilet--he goes pee no problem (all by himself)--BUT he WON'T sit on the toilet and go poo! He needs to put on his 'pul-up' and squat where & how he wants and goes poo and we (I) have to throw the poo in the toilet and might I add WASTE those expensive 'pull-ups' just so he can take a poo in them and skip having to sit on the toilet!!
We are at our witts end and feel like we have tried everything--when we did the cry-it out thing, he just held it (he won' go in his underwear) untill he was screaming in agony and pain.
He has never had a problem with constipation or anything--he just acts like he is scared to sit on the toilet to poo.--We are told that he goes at daycare, which makes matters worse (but I think if he does go there, it's just a fluke)?? Because he seems so DEAD set against it.
He's 3/12 now and we are very worried that he will be 4 years old (soon) and still scared and we are not about pushing him too much, but we are at our wits end.
Any help/experience/support/advice would be appreciated!!
THANKS!! -Lisa
