I get heartburn really bad from drinking water too! Any other remedies or have you figured out why this happens?! I thought it mostly was from spicy foods. Cold water makes it even worse so I've switched to room-temperature and that's helped a little.
Waiting for Baby Kason or Kennedy, due May 7th.

Anyone tried sweet potato for heartburn? I tried it twice and it seemed to work (get the purple ones as opposed to the orange ones, and mkae sure you eat a decent portion or 2).. If it doesn't help, at least they were yummy and healthy for you, too!
Thanks all. The weird sensation is just under my left boob (not right) and it isn't painful at all (unlike gallstones). It's as if someone is squeezing my spleen (or pancreas, or other organ in that vicinity!). I do get bad heartburn, which I can easily identify, but the rolling/rubbing/squeezing sensation is the most bizarre feeling I've had with my pregnancy to date. I suspect it may something to do with my blood pressure(?)
When I was pregnant I would get a pain under my right boob which went away after my baby was born, so it might be a foot or something under your ribs. My baby was quite long and a bit squished up inside me! The pain started out as a sort of tingling sensation and became more painful as time went on. Oh well, it's resolved now.

Diannel,
If this is your second child or more, then it could be gall bladder stones. That is the pressure under your right breast that hurts so bad. It kinda feels like the baby has a foot up your ribs and is twisting. Have your doctor check it out. They couldnt do anything with mine before the baby was born but at least the I knew baby was fine. The pain gets worse as it develops more. But the doctor can give you advice on how to alleviate the pain and nausia.

I get heartburn about an hour after lying down at night - usually as I'm just dozing off! I'll sit up propped on pillows and it usually goes away after 15 minutes and I settle down after that. I also get a bizarre pressure just below my left boob which can occur at any time - it almost feels as if someone or something is inside, firmly stroking, rubbing or rolling on my spleen (or whatever organ is down there!) It's not painful, but it's very distracting. What could this be?
I get heartburn if not twice a day at least once.It usually hits when I'm laying down at night.Lemonade gives you heartburn and one night I had lemonade right before bed and I had the worse heartburn ALL NIGHT LONG.I haven't had lemonade since and I love lemonade. My boyfreind loves the fact that I have heartburn because that usually means the baby's hair is growing.I do want my daughter to have a lot of hair but I dont want heartburn.Sprite gives me heartburn sometimes too.I dont drink milk so that's not an option,I take deep breaths and let it go away on its own unless it makes me throw up.

Tums works enough for me, but my Dr said I can take Zantac twice a day if I really need to, that it is approved, but most other antacids are not on the A List for approved drugs for preggos. Tums helps with my calcium intake too since I am lactose intolerant so I like them anyway. heartburn is a killer though, I forgot my tums yesterday at home and it was such a painful day of work that I went out and bought a bottle for work last night.

I think sugar makes it worse too, but I love to eat some vanilla ice cream to stop the burning temporarily. I usually have to take a tums later, though.

I've been drinking milk -- but when it is really bad --- ntohing helps. People say Tums is ok, but I just muster out the discomfort.

I usually hate milk, but it is my new best friend! It has helped the heartburn a great deal.

Thanks for all your suggestions and posts on this subject. I take sips of milk when I have it badly and seems to work very temporarily, probably just the cool sensation, but it's not really aiding in fixing it! Will go to the pharmacy this afternoon and see what they suggest. I'm very cautious about taking anything medicinal while pregnant, so have been staying away from the drugs etc, but it's getting to the stage i'm just sick of it and have to do something. I think sugar actually makes it worse, but i've such a sweet tooth it's hard to stay away from it... :(

I read somewhere that gum is supposed to help, but to stay away from mint flavours.

CRYSTALLOVE,
You will know if you have heartburn.
Sometimes, for me, it feels like everything I ate for the day is sitting in my throat, and it really BURNS! And sometimes, and I know this is a little too much information, I kind of throw up a little bit if I try to burp. And I can forget lying down to sleep. I have spent quite a few nights sitting up, leaning on a pillow to sleep.

At our childbirth classes last week they recommended papaya as a way to relieve heartburn, I have tried it and it works for me.

Milk is supposed to make heartburn worse, because of the lactic acid. I would stay away from milk as a "cure" for heartburn.
I find liquids, like Mylanta of Maalox, work better than Tums. The liquid gives more instant relief.

I get heartburn all the time too. I asked my doctor what else I could take because Tums dosen't always work. She told me that milk might actually make heartburn worse because of the protein in it. She gave me some stuff called Dioval. It is like tums but it is also good for helping with gas. They don't taste as good as tums but they work. They have a minty flavour. Try the liquid it tastes a bit better.

I am entering my 30th week and still no heartburn. KNOCK KNOCK! I have a long torso, so I am wondering if that helps. She's not pressing on much. She feels like she is really low. Mostly she presses on my bladder!

I have been getting heart burn lately too. Saturday afternoon and evening it was horrible. Guess baby is pushing on my stomach. I don't take anything, well except milk. I heard that papya enzyme was supposed to work.

Yep, I can get heartburn from drinking water, eating a banana or just lying down. Odd thing is that I went out and ate Indian food, fairly spicy for my mild pallet, and not a single issue with heartburn the whole night. I guess this is a good excuse to load up on butter chicken and nan!

I get this all the time! The old wives' tale is that if you get alot of heartburn, your babywill have a fullhead of hair. Not sure if it is true or not but my older 3 all were born with a head full of hair! Anyways, Tums are my best friend for helping to get rid of it.

I get it so badly at night, and literally from drinking WATER. Last night i had 4 pillows so i could sleep sitting up! it was the only thing that seemed to help because Tums make me feel like i'm going to throw up:( Hope you find something that gives you relief soon!

Try Tums. I've taken that on a few occasions, and it seems to help. It also has an extra boost of calcium, so it's actually kinda good for you, too!

I've been getting heartburn pretty much throughout my whole pregnancy but it seems to be getting worse. I drink milk which helps a bit, but some days it's really bad and nothing seems to help. Any quick fixes??
