The old wive's tale says if it is above 140, it is a girl- below, it is a boy. However, numerous medical studies have been done, and they have found no correlation between gender and heart rate. There was, however, a correlation between heart rate and age of the fetus. I heard my baby's heart rate at 12 weeks, and it was 155. The doctor said that, at 12 weeks, 155 means that the baby is alive, but that is about all he can tell.

I have heard it is an old wives tale-- because our babie's heart rate changes throughout the pregnancy-- amongst other things

My doctor told me the same thing about it being an wive's tale.

Hi all, I am 14 weeks and heard the heartbeat this week. My doctor says it's a wive's tale about the heartbeat having anything to do with the baby's sex but I was hoping to hear from those of you who have kids already. Is there really any correlation, based on your experiences, between rate of heartbeat and sex of the baby?
