Hi Heather I won't be much help - I didn't have good luck with Pumping but if I had it to do over again = I would have made it work. Jared just preferred me over a bottle and that was that. Besides I didn't have a very good pump - Like I said - if I knew better. I understand about your freedom and wish you all the best with that. Keep trying.
On another note - we are down to ONE feeding a day, I know some out there love BF and I do/did but it was hard. Jared had his first tooth at 4- 1/2 months and now has 16 teeth.... With his back molars coming in now.
The one feeding I am down to will be difficult - Jared actually stopped his bedtime feeding which is what I thought would be the last to go - now it is jsut the early morning feeding (usually anywhere from 5-7, but teething brings it anywhere from 2:30 to 7 am) he takes and i think this one will prove to be quite difficult. Time.....
Good luck and get a good pump. Also, my cousin exclusively pumped and she seemed to dry up quicker than if she had BF also.

Heather - I used my pump all the time, so DH could give Leah a bottle while I went to work for a few hours. It's nice to get away for a little while, BUT you have to pump just as often as you would feed in order to keep your milk supply up. I would usually pump right when I got home. If you have an electric pump, they are wonderful.

Hi there We are still at 2 feedings a day - for three days this past week - I cut out the morning feeding but I think Jared figured it out that if he slept later - I distracted him from his morning milk and went straight to breakfast - so after 3 days he started to get up earlier. On the first day upon waking - i tried giving him milk and he took a swig and threw a fit - there was no way -
Oh well - In time - It has taken me about 4 months to knock out the two other feedings.....
Boy this is tough! Besides - Jared is getting his cuspice teeth (eye and stomach) and they have to be the WORST ever. And he never had an easy time teething, but this has been UGLY. Poor Baby!

Leah sometimes likes to play while she eats. Some of the things she likes to do is play with my face or come up and say "boo" and then go back to eating. She gets squirmy and restless if she's overtired, which sounds like that might be Jared's problem at night time. Leah goes to bed between 7 & 8 and I try to start her bedtime routine (bath, get dressed, and then BF) as soon as she starts showing signs of being tired. I have to admit that I haven't been too good at it lately though...lots of late nights for the kids. If she's overtired, then it's a fight at bedtime because she doesn't know what to do with herself and she's at her point of breaking down. When I have nights like that with her, I have to remind myself that it's not her fault that I'm getting her to bed so late and that she has a breaking point just like I do, so I just do my best to love her through it just like I hope someone would do for me. That's just my situation, not trying to say it's the same for you and Jared. From what you said, I would just start your bedtime routine a little sooner, so that Jared isn't overtired and so restless. Hopefully there won't be any more BF wounds for you. If nothing else, just be glad that you're still giving him all the benefits of BF. Let me know how it goes and have a GREAT week. - Rebecca

LILBECK I have a question - Does Leah squirm and play when eating Jared is not so easy to feed anymore - well = his AM feeding goes the best. But nighttime - before bed - he is so restless - He even squeezed and pinches my breast to the point that it bleeds. It really hurts and when I tell him no - He cries.
Any suggestion. We are only down to two feedings a day - I don't know that he is ready to stop another - but I will wait a while longer - no problem but how do I get him to cooperate - Besides the fact that his bedtime has become later and later...........

after i wrote what i did below i checked KELLYMOM
here is what they said
In general, if you are sober enough to drive, you are sober enough to breastfeed. Less than 2% of the alcohol consumed by the mother reaches her blood and milk. Alcohol peaks in mom's blood and milk approximately 1/2-1 hour after drinking (but there is considerable variation from person to person, depending upon how much food was eaten in the same time period, mom's body weight and percentage of body fat, etc.). Alcohol does not accumulate in breastmilk, but leaves the milk as it leaves the blood; so when your blood alcohol levels are back down, so are your milk alcohol levels.
Always keep in mind the baby's age when considering the effect of alcohol. A newborn has a very immature liver, so minute amounts of alcohol would be more of a burden. Up until around 3 months of age, infants detoxify alcohol at around half the rate of an adult. An older baby or toddler can metabolize the alcohol more quickly.

They say what you ingest is what the babe gets Like steer clear of certain foods - but I do eat TunaFIsh just not a whole lot - FOr the first few months of Jared's life I wouldn't touch spicy or gassy foods because he would get gassy and such. After a while i would enjoy a glass of wine - but it was usually after i fed him and time between the next feeding - either wine or a beer (I never touch hard liquer). I was just thinking as I rocked him to sleep if that has hurt him in any way. I always tried to be careful. I think back and maybe I should have never had anything to drink. But i read that it takes so much time and so on and so forth.
Now I eat what I want basically. Spicy - tho i cannot handle it like I used to. And Broccoli - BRING IT ON - he loves it too. Just takes them a while to be able to endure. Gosh he loves past with broccoli and garlic and oil. I did read after the fact that like we who BF are to stay away from chocolate (i was never a huge fan of it anyway) and like Peanuts (which i did eat). So, Does anyone really know - as they say - Look what our parents did - and they didn't know any better. I had a cousin who smoked - Got to me every time I saw her - during her pregnancy and the short while she BF. YOU KNOW THAT BABY GETS THAT! (one of hers has really bad allergies and ahsma and the 3 are sick alot) And beleive me - I used to smoke - quit the month before I got preggo, and it was HARD.

Ok i got a question for you still breastfeeding or anyone who breast fed.
Do you drink alcohal, eat fish, spicy foods, all the things you werent supposed to do with your preg, do you continue that when your beast feeding?
i ask because to me and this is soly my opinion, breast feeding is just like being pregnant, but now the child is on the outside of you instead of the inside. so when i breast fed, i was still watching what i ate and drank and after a few months of breast feeding and the whole 10 months of brest feeding, i got tired and wanted to enjoy food and my life again, so i stopped. Now i am about to begin again with the next kid and since i have basically been pregnant or breastfeeding since 2004, im not really looking forward to it, but i know im going too.
anyways just wondering if i was the only one who thought of breast feeding the same as being pregnant...... -Heather

hi there - just checking in STILL BF here down to two feedings which is GREAT I have an acquaintance through my hubby job - her hubby is a fireman also - found out today and that she is pregnant again - she had quite a tough time with all pregnancies. (she had a good baby too) I wish her all the best - our babes are about 5 days apart - so today when hubby told me - of course i think about it ALL DAY - I don't really want Jared to be an only child but......... And I just think of the rough year I had - with babe and hubby......
then finally putting him to bed tonight just a little bit ago - literally - I think - CAN I DO THIS ALL OVER AGAIN - GOSH - I AM NOT DONE WITH THE FIRST - and i think - formula for the second - God help me if there is - and then I think - THAT IS NOT FAIR.........
PSST - Jared had his FIRST FIRST in A SALON haircut yesterday (he was SO good) - HE IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!! ( so really he had his bangs trimmed 2 other times.)

I'm still BFing Mason and weaning doesn't look like a viable option anytime soon. He nurses as if it is his God given right. I know they say you should drop one feeding at a time, but he isn't really on a schedule so that's going to be a little tough. I'm sure he'll wean when he is ready, but I'm not going to rush him. He eats well and drinks milk, juice and water so diet isn't really a concern for us. He will even go to bed without nursing, so bedtime isn't an issue either. But, try telling him that he can't have his 3am milk and all he!! breaks loose! Oh what I would give to sleep through the night!

Hey Ladies! I'm still BF too, but I guess I'm the odd one in that I don't mind it at all and I know Leah will wean herself when the time is right. I don't plan on BF too much longer, but Leah doesn't enjoy solid foods as much as our son did at this age. I know that the more solids she eats and now that she takes cow milk in a sippy cup, she will gradually wean herself...but I'm keeping everything at her pace, so it doesn't become a struggle for her and me. I do feed her 3 meals a day of solid foods, but about half of them end up with her not wanting it, so I give her some finger foods and a sippy cup and then she nurses before bed times. She usually gets up once a night to nurse a little. I guess I'm just comforted in knowing that she's her own individual little girl and she'll do things when the time is ready for her.

CALIFMOM How are things going with BF. I thought I had another feeding time licked but I think it might be too soon from the 1st. He didn't take it for 2 days the 5 pm one but now he gets up again throughout the night and things just haven't been right - ugh
How about you -how are you making out?

Moving around alot - wow
Did I ever think I would be doing this this long - I always said - If I could do 6 months 7 tops I would be happy - I NEVER expected this and then the fact that he won't take a bottle or sippy of much else is very frustrating. And yes the bedtime is usually one of the lasts - and 3rd week in October we have a dinner dance and I don't know how I will do it.
Sometimes I wonder when I will get my life back. Not that I am complaining but it is HARD and hubby isn't all that helpful or understanding.
Oh well, let me get off my soapbox Good luck - keep me informed..... Today was day 6 that the noon feeding was cut out!!!!!

It is definitely good know someone in my situation. Ally eats everything, corn on the cob, "little smokies", chicken nuggets...I try to give her a lot of fruits & veggies, I find the toddler portions from gerber work well. She will ave no part of spoon feeding, unless she's holding the spoon. Thanks for the advice, we just moved and are planning on moving again here in about 5 weeks so I'm trying to consider what the experts say about NOT weaning during a big adjustment, but I think we are starting to gradually wean, I hope. Sometimes she gets so cranky, clingy and I know the only thing she wants is to breastfeed. Usually before naps, bedtime. Which I hear are usually the last nursing sessions to go. Well, Congrats to you & your little guy..did you ever think you'd make it to a year? I sure didn't, I was happy at 6 weeks : )

Hi there and here I thought I was alone!
Jared is still nursing - tho the last visit to the doc he said we can start whole milk cause I told him I just cannot do it anymore. He has had milk for 12 days now -he likes it - doesnt drink it like others - a few swigs here and there - he loves water and is eating everything.
He was never big on formula, and really never took a bottle of my milk or formula. Since he started milk I have been able for 5 days now - we skip the noon feeding. BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT. Jared really only now nurses 3-4 times a day cause I am just constantly giving him sips of milk.
It hasn't been easy - I guess I am doing the right thing since we have gone 5 days missing the noon feeding. I know it is a LONG process and cannot just happen overnight - but I hear you with your little one not wanting any part of it.
All I can say is keep pushing the milk, when she wakes from a nap really thirsty - give the sippy of milk. Does she eat meats and stuff. My babe was never a baby food baby - didn't like it at all. Big people food = LOVES IT!
Good luck - it isn't easy I know!
