I have been taking New Chapter Organics Perfect Prenatal. It is about $35 if you select "subscribe & save" on Amazon. It should last for 2 months. I have sensitive stomach but this multivitamin is very gentle. I have not experienced any aversive side effects. My sister who had a baby boy about 9 months ago also used this. Our experiences have been very positive. I would highly recommend it.

*Note: New Chapter Perfect Prenatal contains Folate not folic acid. Folic acid can be taken separately from fortified foods or supplement. Please consult your physician for best recommendation.

lol "fish burps" can't say I have ever experienced those in the year I have been taking them. The fish pill doesn't even taste like anything. Just make sure you take them around the same time everyday and with a meal :o)

Thanks everyone for the advice. I went out and bought the one a day prenatal vitamins. I read quite a few good reviews on them. Some people complained about fish burps other people were fine. So we will see how they work. Again, thanks for the advice.

Definitely switch to a prenatal with folic acid... I take Centrum Materna. It's a bit more expensive than other brands but I don't have any adverse reactions to it (and I am the kind of girl that gets dizzy if I take one regular strength tylenol!)

I have been taking a regular multivitamin and I just read on webmd that many doctors will prescribe a prenatal vitamin if you are TTC.

Should I just stop what I am doing and go to a prenatal vitamin instead?

Hi,

Are you taking regular multivitamins? If so, I'd suggest switching for the prenatals one, and picking one that has 1000 mcg (that's what my doctor and my OB suggested and the amount I've seen recommended on most sites).

I've never heard of anyone having those reactions to folic acid (doesn't means it can't be related), so I would tend to think it is more related to your hormones getting back to "normal".

In doubt, talk to your doctor. You don't seem like you're trusting her that much. In that case, I'd suggest you look if you can change right away!

I went to the doctor several weeks ago and she said to start taking folic acid. So I started taking the folic acid with my reg multivitamin which she never said to stop. Suddenly I am nauseas off and on, am bloated and have bad gas at night. I thought it may have been due to my going off the pill about a mth ago. But after reading more I may have been taking to much. Because my multivitamin already had 400mcg and the supplement I picked up was for 800 mcg. That is about 1200 mcg and I read people shouldn't take more than 1000. The doctor said between 400 and 800 mcg.

Does anyone know if I can just take the multivitamin or should I skip it and just take the folic acid? I would ask the doctor but she was new to the practice and seemed new in general therefore she wasn't much help.
