I can't believe your doctor would let you go through IUI without having a test for your tubes. I would do that absolutely 1st thing, and most doctors would do that and a semen analysis before anything else is done. On average the cost of IVF is between $10,000 and $15,000 each cycle. Adoption may be more expensive, but it's a more guaranteed end. It really is a personal decision though. Some women get pregnant on the first try with IVF, and some go through 5 or 6.

Hi Stacy!
Thanks for the detailed price breakdown for IUI and IVF. If you don't mind me asking what clinic or hospital are you using for IVF? Can you get it done pretty much everywhere or do I have to go to a specific city? Those costs still seem high but if my benefits cover some of the meds it might be an option to try once. How are you doing with all of it?

Wow! You all are giving me such good information. Thanks! DH and I have had lots of tests done by the fertility specialist. He did have the sperm analysis. I think they said it was 49 million and 85% motility. We had it done twice so I can't remember which numbers were from which testing. I also had a pelvic ultrasound, blood tests, sugar tests, and an internal exam. The doctor said there is no reason for us not to be getting pregnant, so I'm just hoping it happens in the next little while. Secretly I wonder if it is because of my CM as I have always been dry. I asked my doctor but she basically told me I was wrong, that everyone has CM deep inside of them. DH and I used preseed anyways just to be covered. Anyway, I have a meeting with my fertility specialist on July 27 (CD21) to discuss further options such as testing for blocked tubes. We'll try everything we can till we get to IVF. At that point we would just adopt. I have done lots of research and was not surprised that it costs around $20, 000 CDN, as I had heard this through some friends. I just figure if IVF costs $15,000 and it's not even a for sure thing, I'd rather spend $20,000 and get a baby for sure. Plus there are so many girls in China waiting for a home. I'm so happy you all are gabbing with me about this. It's great to get all your advice. Keep the information and questions coming please. I'm hoping it is helpful to others as well.
:)

200.00 for IUI without meds
(my meds were covered by my benifits)

the IVF we are doing now is
4500.00 for IVF
1000.00 for ICIS (poke the sperm right into the egg)
3000.00 for all the meds (covered by benifits)
800.00 for freezing leftover eggs
(all canadian)

also include.... time off work, out of town costs for us to stay for the procedure, acupuncture treatments and more money for food as we are eating healthy and it does cost more for good/healthy food

Our clinic charged $175 for the sperm washing in our IUI cycles, the ultrasouds, blood work and the actual insemination was covered by OHIP. But that did not cover the medications. Our last cycle of IUI was over $1000. I have not had experience with IVF.
Check out www.soft-infertility.com/ they have great info including prices.
Hope this helps and good luck to you!

Holy smokes! I guessed it to be about $10,000 but I thought I was guessing on the high end. Eeek! If that's the case than DH and I will probably try to rounds of IUI and then if that doesn't work we will go the adoption route. I'm getting really frustrated since the fertility specialist tells us there is no reason for us not to be getting pregnant but for some reason it's just not working. I still have to have my tubes checked though, then if they are clear I don't know what else they would check. Well anyways thanks for your info.

Our IUI costs about $500 including the meds' and our IVF will cost around $15,000 with meds. We are in South Florida so your cost may be different, but I've researched on line and it seems to be the average. You can go overseas and have IVF that costs as low as $2,000, but I don't know much about those.

Any information would be helpful, even if it's just an approximate amount.
Thanks!
