Ryleigh didn't like the rice cereal, but she didn't so any signs of pain. But when I gave her a rice puff, she was vomiting. So I think it wasn't that she didn't like the rice cereal, but that it did bother her in some way.
She tried rice cereal about 3-4 times, then I switched to oatmeal cereal and she loved it.

Rice cereal makes my LO gassy and constipated. She does much better with oatmeal. Sometimes she still gets a little constipated, so I skip the cereal for a day or two and that seems to help.

I hope you find something that works!

i had the same problem and the ped said to water it down some more, it may be to think causing it to be heavy in the stomach. i switched to oatmeal and had a better time with it.

my doc advised me to start brinly on rice soy free cereal because it isn't as hard on tummies. we tied the beechnut brand and she seems to be doing well with it, and she's hugely gassy to begin with.

I wouldn't put your baby down to sleep right away after feeding. Rice wasn't that bad for us, it was Oatmeal that didn't agree with her. We d/c that, and now we're fine.

Yeah I think the iron content or something is hard to digest. Jack seemed to have a hard time with it too....we stopped completely and started on oatmeal when he was about 7 months old. He was exclusively breastfed and was doing fine without it.

If the only thing new is the cereal, then I would say that the cereal is causing her gas. Stop giving her the cereal and try again in a few weeks.

Hello! We decided to start our 5 m.o. on rice cereal in the evenings to get her used to solids. However, we've noticed that since we've started (3 days ago), she wakes up about 2 hours later with what sounds like awful belly pain & gas.

We're only giving her 1 TBLS of cereal mixed with 1 TBLS of breastmilk, so we're not stuffing her by any means.

Should we just hold off on the solids? Should I try a different time of day? Could it be something else causing it??

Thanks!

We had baby #2 on September 11, 2008; a baby boy!! He was 8 lbs., 11 oz., and I delivered in 6 hours, with NO pain meds. Go Mom, go Mom! At 3 months, he's 13.5 lbs. and 24.5 inches long!

Our first DD was born in July, 2006. She was 6 lbs., 11 oz. and just under 20" long. At almost 2.5 years, she's just over 34" tall and not quite 25 lbs. (peanut!).
