Great point and it underscores why it's important for each pregnant woman to talk with her healthcare provider to determine the healthiest weight gain for her pregnancy!

I dont know who says 15 lbs, regardless of weight. I was 5 ft 1 and 160lbs when i got pregnant, and my doctor said 25-40 lbs! She said just because your bigger doesn't change that your baby needs to grow. I would say your doing just fine, many women gain closer to 40-50 lbs. It will take work after, but you can loose it! Maybe try adding in a 30 min walk everyday to keep from gaining to much more, but as long as your health care provider isn't worried, your fine!

I like to think about it this way - once you have the baby, whether you are looking to lose 20 pounds or 100 pounds, you will want to do the same things (eating healthy, exercising regularly, etc). It will just take a little longer if you gained more weight than the best case scenario. You can still reach your goal, you just might need some extra time. You'll get there!

I have been overweight in the past and it is hard for me to gain weight over the pregnancy since I am now over 200 and in my prior life that meant I was fat.

I have gained 25 lb and am at the top of what I 'should' gain for my pre-prego BMI.

I understand how it's easy to eat more than usual since your belly is already big anyway.

I wish you the best - don't give into the mindset that you have already gone over so what the heck?

I am 24 years old and 28 weeks along with my first baby boy. My husband and I started TTC in September of last year. We were finally blessed at Christmas and are now due in September of this year. I have always struggled with my weight. Once I started college I gained about 20lbs a year even though I was working out. I knew I wanted to lose significant weight before I got pregnant and I really kicked it into high gear last Fall. I finally saw a big lose and was down to 185 and down a pant size to a 16. I was so excited and to top it off not two weeks later I found out I was pregnant! I just know that losing that weight helped us to conceive. I was so proud of myself. Now here is the part that is really getting me down. I knew I would gain weight for the baby, I was excited too. But then I went from 185 to 195 in the first month. I am now at 221. I have never weighed over 200. Based on my BMI pre-pregnancy I should have only gained 15lbs total. I am now at 36lbs with 12 weeks left. It is so hard for me to be excited about my son when I know that I have taken a million steps backward on my journey to a healthy lifestyle. I have always wanted a large family (4+ kids) but I don't know if I am capable of handling the emotional toll this is taking on me. Has anyone ever felt this way? I can't really find anything on the site that addresses this and it really discourages me.
