You should not lose weight unless your doctor says it is medically appropriate for you and your baby. Some obese women are told to lose a little weight because the weight is putting the woman or baby at medical risk for serious complications.

Now...what is heatlhy for you?
Based on your height and PPW, your Body Mass Index is 28.7...which puts you in the overweight category. A general weight gain recommendation for this is to gain a total of 15-25 pounds total. Because you are tall, I imaging your doctor will suggest about 20-25 pounds.

During the first trimester you can gain about 0-5 pounds total. Then in trimester 2 and 3, you should gain about 1/2 to 3/4 pound weekly.

Talk to your doctor about an appropriate weight gain for your particular needs.

I weighed in at 164 when I got pregnant with my first son. I am 5"10 so at 164 it was great until at the end of my pregnancy and I gained a total of 43lbs and weighed in at 207... 3 months later I was pregnant with my second son and by the time that waas over I was 212 and gaining. Now Im pregnant with baby no.3 and I was 200 ppw and at 15 wks still weight the same... I have been walking and exercising and I can feel the difference as my body itself gets stronger... I've heard stories of ppl losing weight while pregnant and I want to be one =)
