This really is just an old wives' tale. I've heard so many people tell me that it didn't ring true for them. It didn't ring true for our first. It was in the girl area and HE turned out not to be a girl!

God bless you all!

I don't think that the HB has anything to do with the sex at all. If so then women and men would have different hear rates too.

I have to think it's an Old Wives Tale. My baby's bpm was high, indicating a girl and when I went in for my u/s it's ALL boy, no questions asked!

I think the BPM and gender relation is just another one of those old wives tales.....the baby's heartrate changes so much based on their movement that there really isn't anyway to tell.

The beats/min don't tell you anything...my dr. told me it was an old wives tale....My baby's heartbeat has been checked over 4 times...and everytime it was significantly different...ranging from 135 - 170....

My doctor told me that this is a myth. That the heart rate has nothing to do with the sex.

My baby's heart rate was 145 at the last dr's visit. Does that mean it's a boy or girl?

I think the bpm and sex of the baby do not correlate. It all depends on your body and the baby. All my friends said I was having a boy because of the way my belly is and the baby's bpm is always around 155. Just went to get an ultrasound and it's a girl, no doubt about it. Back when my mom had me they told her the same thing - strong heart rate and belly in front and none on the sides means a boy and guess what, I was a girl too. It seems to be a myth no one can squash.

I'm due this Wednesday (July 13th). I'm having a girl and the BPM were always around 150. I was carrying high and more rounded shape. Now I'm low and all in front. (I think this is because I've dropped)

Last month it was 151, and it is a girl. But I don't remember the actual cut off line or BPM for this wives tale.

Tiff, first baby, a girl, heartbeat in high 150's-160's; second a boy, heartbeat in 140's, sometimes high 130's; this time, a girl, heartbeat mid to high 150's...it's worked for me every time. They say you carry girls closer to your heart (high), but I carry all of mine low, and no one can ever tell from the back that I'm pregnant. I must admit, though, with my son, he was even lower than his sisters...I felt like he was going to fall out for 9 months...he was head down and engaged for probably 3-4 months. There's also a Chinese lunar calendar on one of the pregnancy websites...just for fun, I tried it with all three, including this one, and it was on the money every time!

Lisa....Due 11/28/05 with our 3rd, a girl. She will join her 8 1/2 yr old big sister and 5 yr old big brother.

With my first pg I carried my son all up front. Couldn't really tell from the back that I was pg. But I did carry high, way above the belly button. Same with this one. And I'm having another boy.

well if the larger part of your belly is above the belly button they say you are carrying high and its a girl, and if its below the belly button its said you are carrying low, and its a boy.

although i dont know how accurate that is, the next part seems to be very accurate from the polls results...

if you are carrying all in front its a boy (that means if someone is standing behind you they might not even be able to tell you are preg, cuz all the weight is out front.)

but if you are carrying wider/rounder/more in the hips its said to be a girl

i have a mommy group of 40 girls. i polled them on this last month... only 2 of the girls was the old wives tale true for them. it seems the "way they carry" has been more accurate (out front or all around.... up high/down low)

This baby's heartrate (which I'm having a boy) has been anywhere between 142-165 beats per minute. The u/s tech told me it really depends on how much sugar you have in your system, what the baby is doing (sleeping, active, awake but calm, etc.), if you've had any caffeine, what you've been doing, etc.

the heartrate is the most accurate wives tale. but its not full proof. mine was around 125 the one time we checked the rate(but was not active at that time of the day), and everyone thinks it will be a boy. i will know soon.

Going to have to wait to see what i have, and the baby was at 150 i believe.
Yeah ive heard about higher the heart beat thats its going to be a girl.
my doctor actually said that my first was going to be a boy because it sounded like a boys heart beat wich was at 136 and he was a boy. She says that this time around the heart beat always sounds like a girl.
Dont really by it though.

my sons heartbeat was always 160-180 and they say higher then 140 is a girl, so i dont think this method is very acurate. it all has to do with how active your baby is, and how far along you are, ETC.

I am just curious to know. What is your due date, the sex of your baby, if you have decided to find out, and the heart beats per minute (BEFORE YOU KNEW WHETHER IT WAS A BOY OR A GIRL). This is just out of curiosity. :)
