I swear that getting a LEEP is why I've been able to get pregnant. As a teenager my doctor told me I'd most likely be seeing an infertility specialist inorder to get pregnant. I had mine done in 2000.

My best friend had a cone and LEEP done. Unfortunately, the first doctor did a poor job with the cone, so her new doctor cleaned up her cervix while giving her a LEEP. She ended up getting a circlage but it's because of how much of her cervix had been removed from the cone.

Jake was born June 16th.

Another quick conception story -- I had a LEEP done on 10/06/05, had to wait a month before having sex again and found out I was prego on 11/28/05. Plus, I had just stopped taking the pill when I had the LEEP done!

I have actually never even had my cervix checked besides the initial exam when I first got pregnant. I am 30 weeks now and my doc has never said anything and neither has my midwife.

I was told the only problem I may have is with dilation when it is time to have the baby. Apparently the scar tissue from the biopsies and the leap can make it hard to dilate.

Hi jennybean:
I was just reading posts on the leep. I had a leep in 2002 and now I am 15 weeks pregnant. I go everyother week to the MD and today my cervix was 3.2. MD said it was fine and that I should come back in two weeks. It just makes me nervous. Were you pretty reassured by your MDs advice?? It sounds like things went well for you. A nice hopeful story.
How are things going now???

It seems like most of you got pregnant shortly after getting the LEEP. I just thought is was kinda funny.

I had the LEEP done last year, and about 3 months later I got prego! I am now 38 weeks, and wishing I would go into labor right now!! I asked my doctor and my cousin, who is also a doctor, if my cervix would be competent, would I dialate. Both of them said that sometimes after a LEEP people do have to get a c-section. Of course, everyone is different, so it is not 100%, but sometimes because of the scar tissue, the cervix will not dialate.

I had a LEEP done in March of 03 a little over 2 months after my son was born.I got pregnant with my 2nd around my sons 1st b-day.Besides my normal problems everything was fine she was born 9 days early.
I was told my pre-cancer cells were inside my cervix and I had to keep a close check on more coming back.

I had it done before my last baby. I had no problems conceiving (got pregnant two weeks after we started trying). I also was 5 days past my due date when I delivered. I had no problems dilating either. Success story here!

I was on the border line fore cervical cancer. I had a leep done Dec. 2004, and I knew smoking is what kept mine getting worse. I didn't have trouble conceiving, and finally quit smoking at 7 Weeks. Hopefully I wont get anymore abnormal paps.

LEEP is a procedure used to burn off abnormal cells on the cervix. Usually what happens is you have a pap smear, and it comes back abnormal. Some doctors do another pap smear in a few months, and if it still comes back abnormal, they will do a colposcopy. This is where they use a special scope, apply some stuff to your cervix, and view the cells. Sometimes during colposcopy, they also do a biopsy to test the cells. In my case, my biopsy came back as pre cancerous. There are several stages. CIN1, CIN2, and CIN3. 1 is mild, 2 is mild, I think 3 is moderate or severe? The first procedure they did was cryotherapy, where they froze the cells on my cervix. After the cryo, they did another colposcopy and saw that there was still one abnormal spot on my cervix. The cells looked as if they were traveling into my cervical canal, so my OB decided to do the LEEP. I did a lot of research on cervical dysplasia, since I was hoping to conceive and did not want to ruin my chances. There are risks of an incompetent cervix. Meaning that your cervix will open too easily causing miscarriage or pre term labor OR that it will remain tightly closed and you will have difficulty either conceiving in the first place, or dilating normally during labor.

Cervical dysplasia is worsened by cigarette smoking and poor nutrition. I quit smoking and began taking several types of vitamin supplements. My last pap came back normal. However, it can constantly reoccur.

May I ask what a LEEP is?
I am not sure what that stands for?

I had LEEP done in 1993/94? (I don't remember exactly). Since then I have had two children and am pregnant with my sixth. One was born at 39 wks and one at 38 weeks. I've had no problems staying pregnant or giving birth. In fact, my dr never mentioned there could be any complications or problems from the procedure. I just assumed everything would be fine.

Oh my, I never thought about that being a problem. I had a LEEP in 1996. I thought all of that stuff was gone. I guess not. My doc hasn't said anything, I just assumed it wouldn't interfere.

If you find out anymore, please post!

Hi Rachael,

I had a LEEP done in 1995, 4 yrs after what I thought would be my last child. I had Brian last October, went two weeks overdue, nothing really new for me. I went thru several things to try to rippen the cervix. However, while they were trying to induce me, his heart rate went down after my contractions. He was in distress and had to be taken by emergency c-section. This was performed by a doctor in CT, which was not my regular doctor, as I'm from Michigan.

When I saw my regular doctor this time (in Michigan), I asked why my cervix wouldn't do a darn thing when I was pregnant with Brian. She said it was most likely due to the LEEP since I had 4 very successful vaginal deliveries before. She is taking no chances this time. I have a scheduled c-section for March 24.

I have had 2 cone biopsy and a leep in an 8 month period. The leep was done in between the 2 biopsy. I was told with the first biopsy that there would be that risk but it is not common. But becase I have had 2 plus a leep and the 2nd one was done while I was 3 weeks prego with this one I do have that chance of delivery really early. But since you only had the one leep you should not be at any risk of delivering early and if you were your doc would have told you when you first found out you were pregnant. My cervix is at about 2.9 right now at 19 weeks but has been pretty stable. If they were concerned with you going to early they could put stitches in your cevix to hold. If you are at 3.8 you should be fine. Like I said I am at 2.9 right now and although they are watching me closely I have not had to have the stitches and they said I probly will not have to. I hope this makes you feel better.

Has anyone here had a LEEP procedure and delivered before 40 weeks? Just curious on this. I had a LEEP done in January, and conceived in February. At 20 weeks,my cervix measured 3.8 which is GREAT, although I wonder about the chance of premature labor/incompetent cervix. (although I am going on 36 weeks, so not TOO early!)

I am also curious if anyone who had a LEEP had difficulty dilating. My midwife has mentioned that scar tissue from the procedure can cause problems with the cervix remaining TOO tight and closed up.
