Does bacterial vaginosis always smell

The symptoms of BV could be similar for a lot of things (for example thrush), so it's always worth getting a test done by your doc.

Whatever the infection, some nice guidelines are to wear loose fitting cotton clothes & cotton pants (no g-strings, these can 'carry' bacteria from front to back), wash with a ph balanced, non-perfumed soap.

When you've had a test & have meds if needed - you could think about your immune system - are you getting enough vitamin C, you could add some garlic to your diet (nature's antibiotic and antifungal) for a boost too.

KIKIKI: I was just at my doctors appt today (Extremely scared to lose baby thread). She has started me on oral metronidazole for bv. I don't know much about it other than the little I found out today. (Everything about what has been happening the last few days is in that thread) However, I had a watery discharge and then a really thick discharge. (I don't know if my issue is related to preterm labor though) No pain, no bad smell. But apparantly the strip test they use to check for amniotic fluid, can also detect bv. And that is why they started me on meds. She did tell me treating it would not hurt me and baby, but leaving it could lead to preterm labor, contractions, low birth weight babies, etc. I would probably suggest talking to your doctor. I know the tests they use...they did today with me. No pain....and really fast. It was just like having a pap smear. I hope this helps. Let us know how things go. :)

Women with BV may have an abnormal vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor. Some women report a strong fish-like odor, especially after intercourse. Discharge, if present, is usually white or gray; it can be thin. Women with BV may also have burning during urination or itching around the outside of the vagina, or both. Some women with BV report no signs or symptoms at all.

Here are some links to some info:

Hope this info helps sweetie!

It is very easy to have BV and not know it. All they do to test you is a swab. If your worried at all I would just have a test done.

I'm a little thrown by the official name. I've had bacterial infections in the past. So if that's what BV is, then it has always come w/ a smell and a greenish discharge.
