Good ideas from you guys. Someone told me that the cafeteria gives out peanut butter/jelly sandwiches but I thought for sure I read a note saying they were a peanut free zone. I am going to recheck tomorrow and see. Peanut butter would make it a lot easier.

I"ve tried many things...but mostly she comes home with eating nothing. If I give a bowl of rice or noodles she will eat that..other than that nothing...she will eat starwberries but alomst out of season..such a complainer. It's hard.

Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.

What i like about it is that they get more protein because it's a slice of meat per slice of bread. Today's i put some shredded carrot in with it and they liked the crunch.

Cinder - I'm gona have to try that. Tessa LOVES hummus and I bet she would just love that. BTW Tessa is my only child who will eat hummus, I can't even get the other kids to try it.

Yes it is tough. I had my share of lunch challenges, when Seth went to a Jewish preschool for the first yr! Not only no nuts but everything had to be kosher and no meat! Only dairy! (sigh)
Anyway I can give u my recipe for cheese paste. If he loves cheese he would love it.

Thanks ladies! As always your tips are very helpful!!!

Comeundone- Good idea about switching up the bread. And doing a cheese and cracker thing. Sincere doesn't like the packaged cheese and crackers but does love all types of real cheeses. Maybe a variety of cheeses with crackers. Thank you!!!

T-I need to find that rhythm. I am still really worried I am going to forget it. Do your kids every do the hot lunch option? Sincere says he wants no part of it. Even on pizza day he wants his lunch packed. I have been putting in an apple now so he doesn't have to worry about opening anything but maybe I will look for easy to open containers.

NJF- The no nut thing is tough because I love that he gets protein from peanut butter because he needs it. I do understand why it's in place but it makes the lunch pack a little tougher. But I am not a 100% sure it's not nuts at school or just peanuts. Maybe I could try again with the almond butter (hated the last few tries).

Marlysmama- I know. Every time I picture the little teeth marks on the package my heart drops. :( I wish Marly was at Sincere's school (actually I wish it was the other way around) for a number of reasons. That would be so cool and I am sure Marly would have no problem showing him the ropes. They need more adults in there right away watching the kids. She said she was trying to hire more but who knows. I am trying to see if I could come in a day or two and volunteer. There aren't very organized.

My heart just broke. The teeth marks put me over the edge. There is no reason that there are not adults to help the kindies with lunch. We have 3 adults that help just the kindies during their lunch time because they need help. Some of our older kids still need help with certain things. I wish Marly was in his class she could help him. Being a lazy mom Marly has learned to open everything on her own. She becomes very creative and she is also nosey bossy pants so she would find an adult to help if she couldn't.
Marly's school provides hot lunch cooked at the school (not processed food heated up) for all the kids. It has been great because everyone is eating the same thing so she eats more. They serve it family style and the kids have to serve themselves. I love she is learning the independence, but she tells me every day she didn't take the veggie. I have to try harder to sneak in veggies at breakfast and dinner.

if u Joined my fb group we have a whole thread on options for the luncbox. You would be surprised what they came up with. When I can actually come up for air I would post some. (I am drained).

Right now Seth gets lunch at school I pay for the lunch and he seems to be enjoying the variety of things. If I see something on there I don't think he would eat I would send lunch, I do however pack juice, water and a snack. He is also not allowed to have nuts.
My advice to you Nicole pack somethings like "yogurt, fruits, vege with a dip if he eats that" and give him a big dinner and a decent size breakfast.

I don't know what I would do if Tessa couldn't have peanut butter!

What about switching up the kind of bread you use for his sandwich? Tortilla, pita, roll etc? Or even crackers & cheese? Maybe different kinds of cheese even.

What about hot lunch? Tessa loves when she gets to have hot lunch, but it's only about 1x every 3 weeks LOL.

Comeundone- The principal said they were trying to hire more people for the cafeteria time. But I have done a lot of talking with him about letting people know if he is hungry and made sure it's all in open bags that I roll up. This is all so new for him. :(

Like you I am doing the half sandwich thing after seeing most of the sandwich's I send come back almost whole. He can't have peanut butter in his lunch at school because of other kids who might have allergies so he is left with cheese. Although I can tell he is over it so will have to switch the sandwich option up soon. No clue what though?

Tessa gets: 1/2 a sandwich, usually either ham or peanutbutter; some kind of fruit; a yogurt; and a small treat - either pretzels, fruit snacks, a cookie, carrots or celery. She's pretty good about eating most of it. The times she asks for a whole sandwich 1/2 of it normally comes home. Daycare is good about sending home whatever they don't eat which is nice. Sometimes there will be a couple grapes or pretzels left. She always eats her yogurt tho.

I'd really talk to his teacher about why the kids aren't monitored to see if they need help with their lunch. Poor guy.

We are having issues with Sincere in school eating his lunch. He is so used to eating small snacks and taking a long time to do it that the quick time frame and the rush to eat a big portion at once is too much for him. Plus I had to go get easy to open bags for all his food because he couldn't open some of the pre-packaged things in his lunch last week. He barely ate on Thursday because he couldn't open his cheese pizza Luncahble. And when I asked him about not eating he said he couldn't get it open and couldn't find anyone to help him. Saddest part was that there were little teeth marks on the package and the cheese stick package. He was hungry but couldn't get it open. Which makes me sad. :(

But back to the question. I am wondering what you guys are packing in their lunch and how much of it do they usually eat?
